Which basically means now that the 360 will be THE dominant RTS console this entire generation, beyond hands down. I hope that Civilization: Revolution supports it too. Because if it does, I will buy it.

I understand that you said dominant RTS 'console', but, personally, I will never play RTS on a console. PC please!

With that said, if it does make it enjoyable and has several titles exclusive of PC, then I'd definately look into it.

Not to mention the PS3 has mouse support. So if it is ever used in an RTS his whole rant goes out the window.

Personally I think it is a move of desperation.

If I am not mistaken MS took digs at Sony for implementing SIXAXIS and copying Nintendo, but this is by far alot worse. A blantant rip off, no way to deny that. The Wii priced Arcade didn't work, so it's on to the next Wii-like idea right?

I bought a 360 because it is different from the Wii and PS3, not just in games, but in controller layout and style. Did other owners buy it because they want it to be an upgraded Wii? Doesn't this defeat the whole purpose of the 360? A seperate gaming experience?

They are really clinging to this Wii60 junk.

Will this use a sensor bar as well or only as a 1 handed device with no point and click option but instead using the analog as the mouse?

If no, then no point. If so, very sad.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Hmmm... Using a Wiimote-like pointer device to replace the mouse in Halo Wars sounds like a good idea. Combining this with the Xbox's history of making previosly mostly PC genres popular on consoles (FPS with Halo and its clones, wRPGs with Bioware's stuff), we might be on the verge of a console RTS boom!

Or maybe not. Who knows?

Hope it works on the PC like the other controllers! It will make HTPC even better! It will make microsofts software even more compelling in this arena.

Well for all those talking about copying, does it bother you that both the PS3 and the 360 use two analogue sticks, a D-pad, 4 main buttons, 4 shoulder buttons, wireless and they both pretty much have the same shape? Thats like omg, so desperate! Did uncharted copy gears because they both use a cover system? NO! It's just a mechanic, the games are what counts.

This would go REALLY well with the new Star Wars game. Think about it! The controlls are already done for the Wii so not too hard to add it to the 360 as well. It would make the Wii and the 360 the compelling star wars consoles. Kinda leaving the PS3 out huh? Banjo+Halo wars+those strategy games, could always execute firmware from a memory stick that goes with the controller.

Tease.

Its hillarious how much negativity is in this thread. It is to be expected but I am surprised to see the sony boys even more agitated. This is only a good thing imo. I am also looking forward to wii/360 games being multi platform if the 360mote is close in function to the wiimote. Great move ms

I think HD Graphics + Motion controls executed effectivley could deprive Wii of alot of it's hardcore gamer market. If MS does this right then they could increase it's competetivness against the PS3 and Wii.

Oh wow. Looks guys, this thing is seriously not going to do anything to Nintendo. It's an extra peripheral getting released during a console's third year. It's going complement the console nicely by doing some stuff the dual-analog setup is horrible at (replacing the mouse in RTS, arguably aiming in FPS), but there's no way it'll ever become the main input device for the 360. Of course, MS might try somethign like it next gen if the device is really, really succesful.

Support is probably going to consists of some future games using this "360mote" in addition to the normal pad, possibly a few patches for older games to recognise it, and maybe a few smaller games designed especially for it.

Some games will definitely work much better, and I'll probably get one when I buy a 360, but this is hardly a massive system seller.

It could if games use it; if they don't, then it won't.  Also, it may not because if games start going Wii/360, then Wii would likely be the lead development platform (see PS2 last gen), so the graphics on 360 wouldn't be as great compared to Wii as they are now.  So in that case, the fact that Wii games are $10 cheaper may come into play.

Just in my case though, I don't think i'd like the 360 version of the controller as much.  Although it could just be the pictures, it looks fatter than the Wii remote, and the 4 buttons don't look as easy to press as the A button on the wiimote (they look like they would be where my palm is, not where my thumb is... although once again, since I am just looking at the picture it could be different when I actually use it).

Also, whats the deal with using an analog stick?  Are they not gonna have a separated analog stick? 'Cause once again, this is only a guess based on my previous play experience and may change in practice, but I would likely get confused moving and 'looking' (read: using the pointer) with the same hand.  I mean, I am just so used to leaning into something, or whatever from decades of using controllers... It may be hard for me to change my default pathways in the brain to send 2 different commands from the same part of my brain.  We'll see how it bears out in practice though; this is all conjecture and I am more than willing to give it its fair shake.  Especially for a RTS game, which is one of the genres that got me most excited for the Wii way back when

(the other being FPS for obvious reasons)

(and seriously, MoH:H2 pwned those controls when i rented it.  Now I just need to wait for one that looks like it has a decent story [Hint to Valve: I am not opposed to purchasing HL2 for a third time if nothing better comes along]).

Please, PLEASE do NOT feed the trolls.

so nintendo and sony were the one doing MICROSOFT SIDEWINDER FREESTYLE PRO + MOTOCROSS MADNESS in 1998.... that's weired I was sure it was microsoft....

without saying that microsoft was one of the best joystick controler designer out there.... in term of remote they have IMO beside the one from XBox (and honestly with my big hands and rough way of playing I still take it over the dual shock from PS2) the best historical record of the 3 competitors.. so accusing them of copying an idea in the remote control business come on let me laugh

When will Microsoft realize that they will NEVER win in Japan this gen? Throwing money into a hole without any (or very little) benefit isn't worth it.

If they put this much effort (supporting Mistwalker, buying exclusives) into the European market instead, they probably would win that by now

Win?  I just think they want to get to current PS3 levels... 15,000 a week or so.  Just so they have something to build on next generation.

Imagine the E3 announcment?

M$ PR: ...We are announcing a revolutionary device in Gaming.. the 360Mote, you will now have the ability to use motion sensor in games.

Reporter: Doesn't that look awfully like Wiimote by Nintendo?

M$ PR: hmmm, Wiimote?? Nintendo?? Never heard of them

:)

Why couldn't they just go...

"Yeah, we thought it was a good idea... and we think we improved opon it because..."

or a backhanded compliment like...

"Yeah, it's a pretty good idea, and we think it would be a good addition to compliment real core gaming."
