I am kind of surprised that PS4 and XB1 are doing so well.  I have to wonder if any of this is due to MHW.  It is kind of amazing that any Monster Hunter game can actually move hardware now outside of Japan, but that seems to be what is happening.

I also think Amazon disproportionately favors Switch consumers.  My guess is that GameStop disproportionately favors PS4/XB1 consumers, and so a lot of Switch consumers are just going to Amazon instead.  I wish I had data to confirm or deny that though.  I've never seen GameStop break down their sales report by console brand.

I actually mentioned in the Amazon thread switch was getting dominated at best buy, and gamestop best sellers lists for Feb. as for MHW moving hardware, IDK, ps4 is doing the same numbers it does every year. xbox is doing much better then last year though.

Those are good finds.  And it is interesting that they tell a different story than Amazon.  Somehow Amazon has really snatched up an extra share of Switch customers.  Do you know if those best buy/gamestop best sellers include retail figures or only what they sell online?

It's crazy how the PS4 is selling. By 2005 the PS2 was $149 while the PS4 is still at the launch price of the PS2. Sony have a lot of head room with the PS4's price for sure and it's not hard to imagine a $149 (or less) PS4 sku once the PS5 is released. Making it an impulse purchase on the cheap. Expect PS4 to do a solid 15-20 million or more after the PS5 is out.

Uhm, not sure what to make of this:

Because I don't want lazy stop-gap ports to succeed.

MK8D wasn't a lazy stop-gap port to everyone.

Good thing Ka-Pi was asking for my opinion  then.

It is just the switch version of the game.

It is like gta5 on ps4. You don't want gta5 to succeed on ps4?

False equivalence and you know it.

8 million is good but take a look at the previous 3 Mario Kart titles.

Mario Kart DS (2005)-23.60 million

Mario Kart Wii (2008)-37.02 million

Mario Kart 7 (2011)-16.76 million

Mario Kart 8 (2014)-8.40 million

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (2017)-7.33 million

It sold well but much less than it should have, the fact that its updated port is going to outsell the original in less than a year is proof of that.

That doesn't matter. If we look at it that way then every game should be ported because it has a chance of outselling the original (and even if it doesn't outsell it it's still adding profit).  I think it's very funny how people don't care about the logic behind business decisions until the subject is Switch ports, by the way.

Probably something like Switch having the best first 12 month period in US console history.

Your point?

Not all so popular and not a lot of people will have known about it. Eg, i knew about MS deals... first time I am hearing about those PS4 deals.

And regardless, all those arent really great deals..... in all cases the consolw is still retailing for more than its MSRP. A good deal is coming in at less than MSRP and with a free game in tow.

That's a matter of opinion.

You can dig up retailer deals for anything. Here's some Switch deals from february:

Retailer deals are very common and aren't equivalent in impact to an actual deal pushed by the item manufacturer.

Question is how extensive were these deals?

Not sure about this:

https://www.furilia.com/the-best-ps4-bundles-and-deals-in-february-2018/

I hope you're joking with this. None of those are from Sony or sold by Amazon. They're from 3rd party sellers and above MSRP. The white PS4 Pro at GS is not a sale. The Uncharted bundle is the older model and also above MSRP. I don't think that even counts towards NPD since it's not officially sold by ebay.

PS4 had no deals in February.

How familiar are we with NPD's practices? They wouldn't take an interest in what people are buying on eBay?

Have you not noticed the trend of almost every publisher re-releasing their past hits on new hardware?

Or the numbers are closer than the leak suggests. Wouldn’t that be fun!

I don't know if he praised those games for succeeding, though.
