I think it's just an IP address recognition system. It can tell that you're from the Uk based on your IP address, and then it pumps adverts from British companies (Yes, I have checked, and the prices were in pounds, though I didn't check for this reason).

I use Firefox, so I don't see any of the ads. Though, I wouldn't complain too much in that situation. =)
