i dont think the read speed has anything to do with it. for example uncharted didnt even have an install, and the game played like a movie. if the streaming system is put to good use, then the read speed wouldnt even matter. the install feature is just devs getting lazy, not the blu ray read speed.

well, to be fair, if their lead system gives them the freedom that caused the install for the other system, then you can't blame them. the 360 doesn't have a problem with read speeds, but the fact of the matter is the ps3 does. it's like mgs4, they USED 50gb of data, they never looked at compression or anthing, they just went all out, but if it were out on the 360, they would need to make a work around (multiple discs). if they have the freedom they should use it. the 360 gives them that freedom. laziness isn't an excuse in my opinion.

They actually clarified that comment, and I think they ended up on a 25GB (single sided disk).  I'm not saying it will happen, but with Microsoft's compression techniques, I'm pretty sure you could fit that on a DVD9.

no you are actually wrong,,,they even had to not include other languages to fit it in the 50GB disk ,,and no it will  not even fit on 3 dvd9 with the best compression techniques

Kojima thinks blu ray capacity is not even enough

Actually, it was confirmed that Kojima was saying they couldn't quite fit it on to a 25GB disk, so they received what was described as the "privelage" of being the first PS3 game on a 50GB Blu-Ray.

Given Lionhead have recently discovered a method of compressing data to one hundredth of it's original size, I'd say it would be quite possible to fit just over 25GB of "uncompressed" data (and who knows how many times the data is reproduced to compensate for lower read speeds) on a DVD9.

That of course doesn't mean it will happen, but if Konami did decide to do it, I don't think it (disk size) would really be an issue.  All that would probably be lost is 7.1 Audio support.

Slow down for a minute and read what I just posted properely.  I just ACKNOWLEDGED that it is on a 50GB disk.  What I am disputing is your implication that it only just fits on one.  It was pushing 25GB so they moved it to a 50GB disk.

It could very well be 26GB for all we know.  This is just as much about publicity as all of Sony's "Motorstorm couldn't possibly be less than 22GB" crap.

Oh yea ,,I was just saying it will ship on the 50 GB disk ,,,How big is it?no one know,I guess we have to wait and see untill it comes out,,,but rumor indicates that it is veryy clsoe to 50 GB ,,that's why they are only supporting english as the language,,but it is not confirmed

Noone knows how big it is.  But somehow I doubt they went from just pushing 25GB to the game almost doubling in size.

Well, Starcraft, there are a couple points for thought. First off your own link says that the sound "apparently makes the game go way past the 25 GB limit". Important term being "way past". Second thing is that your link is a year ago, so I would contend that in that time they are probably well beyond 26 gigs that was mentioned as a possibility. Third, the rumors that the game will only have one language option due to storage constraints, is just one more bit of evidence that they might be pushing near the 50 gig limit.

But the conversation about putting the game on a double-sided 50GB disk and the confirmation that that would happen from Sony are only about a month old.

Even if that weren't the case, you'd have to admit that this leaks of the kind of publicity stunts Sony pulled with Motorstorm and then later with Heavenly Sword's "10GB of audio."

more storage is always good,,Discussing against it is a moot point ,,that's why we have DVD vs VCD

And PS3 has been out only for one year and five months,,,so expect more wise usage of the space as the time goes by,,,there is no denying that more room is better

STARCRAFT, why don'y you just come out and say what you really wanna say and be done with it. Something along the lines of "I don't like the PS3 and will take any negative info about it and blow it out of proportion".

DVD's max read speed is somewhat faster than Bluray, but ONLY when reading the outer part of the disc. Bluray has a constant read speed.

The PS3 has a mandatory hard drive and the 360 does not. The PS3's hard drive is way faster than the 360 12xDVD drive or the PS3's 2xBluray drive. If a dev uses streaming, tons of data can be read from the Bluray drive and temporarily stored on the hard drive during gameplay for MUCH faster access to that data than the 360 can(thanks to the crappy 'core' 360's exsistence).

MGS4 is packing the 50GB disc full and NO, it's not because they replicate data all over the disc.

I can't wait for MGS4 because it will finally put all this Bullshit to rest. And if it ever comes to 360, it will be a shitty version. Believe it.
