Forums - Gaming - Sony being sued over Blu-Ray...

Not that I agree with going to court (always found the US to be too litigious for my tastes) but if what a company is after is money, they'd do well waiting in the sidelines for a bit.

Yeah but it just goes to show how screwed the system is.  There should be a time limit within which the patent owner can file a claim.  Right now, it’s BS.  You shouldn’t be allowed to wait a year or two for the tech to become popular then say "oh… by the way, you infringed our patent a couple of years back, and now we want compensation."

Seriously, when you thought nothing worse could happen to Sony, it gets sued over Blu-Ray. Hasn't Sony learned enough already?

Why Blu-Ray? Why not Blue-Ray? WTF? Does it look cooler without the "e?" No. It looks like a three-year-old child typed it out. Why do they do that? If anything, Sony should have gotten sued for that. Besides that, I see nothing wrong with Blu-Ray, besided the extra $200 price tag on the PS3. It's better than HD-DVD, and the picture is just amazing. Oh, another thing about it is the fact that Blu-Ray movies are practically $40 brand new. WTF?

Why "Wii" and not "Revolution?" Why "Xbox 360"? It's sounds like they've come back to their original idea.

$40 brand new? I don't know where you are from or where you make your purchases, but new Blu-ray and HD-DVDs usually cost below $30

Well I come from Canada, and Ice Age 2, brand new, cost $39.99 Canadian, for the Blu-Ray format.

And Sony should not get sued over Blu-Ray. It's just rediculous how the world works. How is Sony supposed to profit from the Playstation 3 now? It's bad enough that they're losing money on each console.

Well one hopes that blu-ray is different enough from this patent they're claiming so the court will dismiss the case.

@ Entroper and Ray007:

Yes, I agree that it's just a big money grab and the system is screwed, but it doesn't change the fact that the company's bottom line is to make money and if they wanted to sue Sony for some sort of Blu-ray infringement they should wait a bit until Sony has much more at stake. If they would've sued Sony at the incubation stage of Blu-ray development, Sony would'nt have had nearly as much money, time and resources at stake to worry about, making settlement less likely than now.

Hmm "Target Technology Company" I'm pretty sure I've seen their names before. I'm also fairly sure they are patent trolls.
