Anyway, many are aimed at the internet illiterate who don't quite realise that they are all actually bullshit.

By the way. You are the 10,000,000th visitor to this topic! PM me your credit card number to collect your prize!

^The site rates are based on impressions (page views) not clicks

Most I have used in the past (Google, Yahoo, a few other smaller companies) give for both clicks and views.

Obviously, you get more for a click.

You could be right but this is what This site says

"VG Chartz has the option of 728x90 leaderboard, 160x600 skyscraper, and 300x250 medium rectangle placements. Campaigns are sold on a CPM basis, we do not accept CPC or CPA campaigns."

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

ioi + 1

I've clicked on computer ads like "Save 30% off of select Dell Systems" and maybe a few others like that, but for the most part, I find them to be a waste of my bandwidth and there should be a browser option to turn them off.

I should create my own browser with that.... I shall call it UserFox. Yes, I like the sound of that, well, I better get to work on it!

It's like a TV advert really, whether we click on them or not. Right now there is a flash banner underneath me advertising Virgin mobile and its tarrifs. Whether I click on that advert and be redirected to Virgins main site doesn't matter because it has made me aware of the brand, whether I realise it or not. Honestly, internet banners are a great form of advertising.

See what just happened with the site?

That's why we need ads and banners.

haha... indeed

well thanks for the info guys, brought some insight on banners and how they work... i still think half of them are completly useless and i wont understand why a company would pay a site that much money...

I still understand the mindset of those who pursue online banner advertising.  Then again, I suppose some exposure is better than none.
