Forums - Nintendo - One reason that Nintendo wins hearts and minds

Need I remind people that just because a game is not intended for YOU does not make it a bad game.

Is leapster "bad" because its intended market is children?

Is a Hannah Montanna game 'bad' solely because she herself is a no talent hack?

No, if the target demographic enjoys the game, then its a good game. Period. Your opinions do not dictate quality.

I think people are really bashing Nintendo this gen because the games tend to take away some of the edge players get from having played games for decades. Hence all the whining about the Wii Wheel in MK.

"I personallly can't control a kart with this wheel as well as I can a tiny stick, therefore its BAD!" Nonsense. Someone who never played with an analog stick would do MUCH better with a wheel. Your ingrained control mechanisms are not necesarily the best. That makes wii scary to players who like to swing their virtual fallace around by beating other people at games, then calling them a n00b. Suddenly individuals with likes outside a TV or PC Screen are being competative, and as a result we get to hear all the whining of how 'easy' these games are.

I was going to say something about a few of the points on your post ..... but then i noticed that your full post was remarkable that i just had to highlight it completely  =D

What Nintendo has... not so much 'the game', but 'the tradition' or the 'name recognition'

It has proven countless times that Nintendo doesn't even need to make good games, they just need to 'whore' their mascots around.

the fact those games are good (SSBB and SMG) is just a bonus.

Except there are quite a few games that have Nintendo mascots "whored" out into them that don't sell well at all...

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

It's brilliant. Nintendo can make two games that can appeal to someone who is a poor gamer and at the same time appeal to RolStoppable (and the lesser but still skilled gamers like Rubang). "E" for everyone indeed.

I don't think there's such a thing as a "poor gamer." The goal in games, at least to me, isn't so much to win as to have fun. No matter how skilled/unskilled someone is, a game can still be fun. ^_^

I guess that's a nice way of calling me a less skilled gamer. Part of the point of my OP was that there is some type of "win" possible even for the less skilled gamer and yet after that still plenty of challenge for the more skilled. But I agree with your words of wisdom, my goal is to have fun playing a game. You and I and everyone else may have a different definition of exactly what fun is, but when playing a game that is satisfying the definition of what fun is for me then in that Zen-like moment I have won.

you are right, Frank, Nintendo has the magic that lets you play with your child the same game and share the same amount of fun.

Whored mascots, you gotta love this troll... Zelda OoT, what's Zelda Oot???? HMmm maybe the best game released according to every ranking site? but wait, the game was the first on the series maybe thats why. WHAT? it wasnt??

You're telling me it was the 5th game on the series!? damn Nintendo really "whores" their mascots.

You fail so very hard, that even I feel bad about you.

Why does anyone ever respond to kingofwale? He complains about how House of the Dead was rereleased in its original form but bought Time Crisis for 800000000 dollars or whatever it costs since the PS3 doesn't have a controller that has an IR pointer.

I don't know why we respond to kingoffail.  He feels so threatened by Nintendo for some strange reason.

I have beat SMG "only" three times with Mario and two times with Luigi.

I know you're fibbing a little there. I find your humility quite noble and kind-hearted. Did you unlock the Star Fox Galaxy in SMG yet?

Frank, what you are saying is nothing new, but something that is often overlooked.

Calling me out on stating the obvious? Well, I guess it's true. Just call me "Captain Obvious". Deconstructing the "what you are saying is nothing is new" yields some insights for me.  Things that are "nothing new" are things thar are taken for granted and things that are expected. You also said later those games were "A game everyone can play and have fun with".

So RolStoppable points out that "Captain Obvious" said that "it's taken for granted and expected that Nintendo will make games that everyone can play and have fun with."

While that may be nothing new, something obvious, it's a remarkable achievement. There have been missteps along the way but it doesn't seem to have hindered Nintendo. On the contrary, Nintendo seems to be very adept at learning from their mistakes and adapting. But there I go again, just stating the obvious, nothing new here. Move along.
