Forums - Gaming - So has any one played Dark Sector?

I was really  hyped for this game but after the reviews not so much,,,,

I wana know if any one here has played it.If so what do you think ?what do you give it out of 10 ?

the average metacritic is 75/100 for PS3 and 73/100 for xbox360.

do you agree with that or you think it deserves a higher score?

I just beat it yesterday (PS3 version) and I'd personally give Dark Sector a 7/10. It's a decent game that adds alot of elements from many successful games like RE4 and GeOW, but those copied elements feel alot more slapped and inferior. For example, there's a black market that imitates RE4's merchant where you buy and upgrade weapons, but the choices of weapons are narrow and upgrade system is very straight forward and shallow. Also, the graphics are top notch and actually runs smoother than UE3 games but the movements and actions feel very clumped up compared to GeOW and Drake's Fortune, you'll have to press X (ps3) or A (360) everytime you want to react with a wall or cover. Aside from that, the animation gets repetitive when you've gotten around half way through the game. The story is something that will be forgotten and the multiplayer is pretty fun but limited. The best parts of this game is the fact that you learn new cool moves (that makes this game easy) all the time. Near the end of the game the main character becomes a killing machine with many options to kill and stay alive, however, the melee combat is pretty much useless since it can take up to 8-10 hits to kill someone even if you smash them with a glaive in your hand..... pretty ironic since he's so much of a badass late in the game yet swinging his fist with a glaive in his hand into an enemy's head does absolutely nothing.
I'd say rent this game.

I agree with BB, I'd give it a pretty solid 7/10, not garbage by any extent, but it just doesn't seem to highly thought out, they do the whole waves of enemy's thing, but often times not even from different locations (ala Uncharted), it feels really bogged down with repetitious waves xD

The "glaive" (it's not a goddamn glaive), is AMAZING. One of my favorite things about Heavenly sword was the sixaxis support for Kai's arrow's :P That returns and it's pretty damn awesome ;) Worth a rent for that reason alone ^^ The graphics are pretty awesome considering it's multi-plat with UE3 :P Probably the best use of them I've seen from a non-epic game.

Surprisingly spooky at times! Stuff kinda comes out of nowhere if you let it :) (not throwing the "glaive" ahead to see the trail ;) )

All in all it's a pretty solid game, but you might want to rent it first :)

i have a copy of dark sector and i think the game is pretty good, sometimes reviews focus much atention on thing that not matter i find this game pretty fun

I think the real question is.. is there even a market that is dominated by great FPS such as CoD4 to let a 7/10 game do well?

I played it really shortly... Don't know if the gameplay is good, but i can tell you this:

1) looks crappy.

2) Not much interaction with the environements.

3) Really static.

THE NETHERLANDS

@ChronoTriggerJM:
Dark Sector isn't run on UE3, Digital Extremes (former employees of Epic) uses what is known as the "Evolution Engine" which is a proprietary engine supposedly built from UE2.5. Since they used to work for Epic, this game does indeed look and feel like a UE3 game.

Played it for a few hours then got bored....the game is ok but needs to add more strategy to the mix to be fun for long. It was a nice break from playing Condemned 2. :)

6.5/10 from what i saw.

Ah thanks for the clarity BBsin ^^ It looks pretty damn good though :P So whatever they're doing, they're doing it right XD

Didn't Digital Extremes actually invent Unreal and the Unreal Engine in the first place?
