I think MetaKight is better than Pit. He has better recovery, and his attacks are better.

Better recovery? That is the single most absurd claim I have ever heard. Pit's recovery is hands down the best in the game. It is border line broken. If it is at all possible to recover then Pit will come back everytime. Metaknights attacks have higher priority, but he has no way to kill people at all. Pit has at least a few half-decent smashes to finish people off.
Pit's recovery is really punishable. Metaknight's is ludicrous because he can glide more than once and can attack while gliding, even after he has Up+B'd. One of the easiest ways to kill pit is to hit him while he is doing his up+B, then he is screwed.
Metaknight does have better recovery. Metaknight has a great match up against Pit. He may or may not be better overall.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson
Pit can attack while gliding as well. If you are using his up+b for recovery then you are doing it wrong. You only break that out in the most dire of emergencies. The few times I have used it it was because I tried to fly under the stage for a few giggles and messed up along the way. I can't imagine why you would need a second glide either. Just the one will bring you all the way back and then some 99% of times.
personally pikachu would kill pit and metaknight and any other character you put in the mix.

I haven't had a whole lot of time with SSBB, but I've disliked playing against Metaknight. Man, the AI is crazy and it always feels like his attacks negate everything I try and throw at him. Also, I was playing with other people and one of them kept spamming Metaknight's moves (b-down I think).
Metaknight's down smash is pretty easy to spam, as is his tornado. He is just plain ridiculous in the air. His drill can be pretty good against Pit too, but a good player can punish it, which in that case the tornado is better.
