Forums - Gaming - Spoilers getting you into a game

The title of this thread is a little bit confusing. So ... let me explain.

I was bored one night and decided to watch some games analysis on Youtube. I watched Joseph Anderson's video on What Remains of Edith Finch, and it was so captivating that by the end of it I almost shed a tear. I spent the rest of the night with a feeling of unease in my stomache, I was creeped out and could barely sleep even though it's not really a "horror game". Even though I probably won't buy it anytime soon, seeing as it's a linear story experience, I will probably buy it sometime in 2018 and play it to experience the tears firsthand.

If someone didn't spoil the game for me? I probably wouldn't have even tried it to be honest. Even if the basic concept had been explained.

A majority of games are about more than just story though, so to give an example with a very liberal use of the word "spoiler", I probably wouldn't be as excited for Shadow of the Colossus as I am right now if it wasn't for the fact that the themes of the game were explained to me beforehand. I mean fighting giant collosi sounds awesome, but knowing the various interpretations behind the game and what it means to people as a piece of art without a focus on narrative is really cool. I can't tell what i'd do in an alternate universe, but if the themes and bosses hadn't been "spoiled" for me, there's a possibility i'd never be up for buying the remake day one.

So what about you guys? Have spoilers ever gotten you interested in a game? Did you check them out because of the spoiler(s)? Is there any game that you literally had no interest in before it was spoiled for you?

Around the Network

I've not had this happen to me.
I generally know if I am going to love, or hate something the moment I see it.

Tag. I have to think about this. I don't think this has happened to me though.....
