Gears 2 isn't going to sell as many copies as Halo 3, thats certain. By the time Gears 2 is released, MGS4 will have atleast 3,000,000 sold WW, and still be selling strong. Judging from initial impressions its going to be epic in every way including graphics storyline and gameplay. So new comers will eat it up, old fans must have this game because its a finale, and finally Japan has a huge game that it likes along with the US.
So really im going to come out and say it. MGS4 will sell more copies by years end than Gears 2. Its the first game with a global release date on the PS3, and the first game that actually appeals to the entire install base. MGS4 won't have any competition at all until November. |
I dunno. Gears sold over 5 million. I bet it sells at least 2 million the first month. I really think people are over estimating what MGS4 sells. It's predecessors sold fairly well over a quite long period of time. MGS4 would have to really somehow made the game more easy to pick up for it to do those kind of numbers, and the word of mouth/scores will have to be through the roof for it to do three million this year.
It's possible though. Looks gorgeous. But it just strikes me as a game that the masses aren't going to get into easily, whereas anyone can play a mindless shooter like Gears.
I won't buy either, because I don't really care for either franchise (though I respect MGS quite a bit more- just not my bag. Gears is overrated), so I will be an innocent spectator.
