I'm laughing so hard that FMV games are again back. They were awful back in the 90s and still are from Nightshift, Need for Speed, Rockband live. Low budget and the acting is typically awful. The acting in this already looks bad. FMV died for a reason the first time and needs to stay dead.

Why are you being so negative?

This is just a fun experiment bro.

It's PS4 exclusive? Missed that one.

Nightshift? I think you meant Night Trap.

The little acting we see is certainly not that bad and miles away from the 90s cheesiness.

Hunting Season is done...

Ok, I always thought that FMVs are static video files. That doesn’t make his point any less poor as this is how games will look in the future.

Not necessarily, no. Not only uncanny valley has to be beaten (and all things considered, it probably never will depending on what stuff you cram the game with), but photorrealism isn't the only kind of art style a game can have.

His point isn't valid or invalid, it's just his opinion; FMVs have a history of being cringeworthy or extremely cheesy, and as long as you're using actors in scripted sequences (instead of a full rendered character that you can manipulate on your own will), there's bound to be two issues: gameplay and graphics interaction/limitation. Until a proper example can be given of a photorrealist game with these graphics, then I don't see why he can't complain about it.

EDIT: before anyone call on that, I'm not saying Erica isn't a game. I meant anything that isn't constrained to binary choices and point n' click movement.

I have a weird feeling once cinema is dead, this is what they'll try to replace it with.

No. This was said 20 years ago and the fad died. Fads come back sometimes. Film as it is will always be what it is.

The developers have created their own tech for this and are looking into how they can create many stories using it. Although not completely the same, David Cage has proven there's a thirst for alternative interactions with games and narratives.

The PS5 Exists.

No I was thinking of Late Shift which is a recent FMV game.

Cage is a hack.

Not sure how to feel about this one just yet.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the point I was making.

The tech wasn't there 20 years ago (it's actually older than that). If they do these things seamlessly enough like this video, it could be a new fad... maybe. It's not like you even need a game console to do it.
