the Cry engine (far cry, crysis)

gamebyro (has full ps3, 360 and wii support)

are the main names for engines known by people

the new ID software tech 5 is being used as well for some - I THINK

as well as several smaller names..

CryEngine is only being used for Far Cry and like one PC game. I don't see how anyone is using it for their game development.

Gamebyro seems to only be licensed by Bethesda for console use.

What I meant when I said "Epic saved HD gaming" was that everyone and their mother is using UE3. None of these other middleware engines are being put to much use. Even the Source Engine is basically only used for consoles by Valve themselves. If you minus all the games from UE3 it would be greater than all these other middleware engines combined from what i've seen. It also seems to be the most felxible, making first person shooters, third person shooters, racing games, sports games, WRPGs, JRPGs, fighting games, adventure games, real-time strategy games, and even XBLA games.

If anyone knows about my former question, does UE3 not work especially well with the PS3 because i've noticed not a single Sony exclusive is using it, only multiplats.

Heh, Unreal Tournament obviously uses UE3. PS3 exclusive on consoles.

I know it does but that's Epic's own game. I meant a licensee.

The success of UE3 is good for everyone as it helps to keep costs down and also to attract other engine makers to the platforms. This competition will lead to improved performance, new and improved features, and lower costs for the engines.

Hopefully, this engine will wow us like UE3 is right now when it finally gets released(as in available to the developers)
