Nintendo's software strategy
When Nintendo releases a system they unlesh their entire 1st party might for the 1st two years in the system's life cycle. This is to make sure the system launches hard and fast in the begining. If the system does not sell hard in the 1st two years than the system fails. The Switch shows at least year one started fast and hard. However the reason why Nintendo has mostly a two year life cycle is because they have to move on to another system. When 1st party DS games were done the company worked on Wii games. When they were done with Wii games they moved on to 3DS games and so on and so forth. This means that if Nintendo messes up in the 1st two years than there is no way for the system to recover. This is why the 3DS and Wii U sold so badly compared to the DS and Wii.

Could there be a Second Nintendo 1st party Wave?
Lucky for the Switch it does not have this problem. There will be no new system in four years. (Unless Nintendo losses their minds). This means that once the 1st party game are out they will work on more Switch games. That means starting at around 2019 and 2020 we could have a scond wave of 1st party support. This is huge. No other Nintendo system has had this. Except for the NES. (Which had a monopoly for awhile).

What is means if there is a 2nd Nintendo party Wave
Nintendo will not need to waste time and release another Mario or Zelda in the second wave.  In the second wave of 1st party titles we could see NEW IPs. This is  even more huge because if Nintendo can make another big IP that will blow up sales even more! In 7th generation Nintendo blew up because their New IPs became super popular.(Over simplifiying here a bit) In the NES era the same thing happened there. Zelda and Super Mario Bros came in the 2nd wave.  (NES came out in 1983 in Japan). The potential for the Switch is really high because not only is this true for 1st parties but it is also true for 2nd parties as well.

Are we in the calm before the Switch explosion?

Why no Pokemon or Fire Emblem is in this
When I put first party games I meant internally developed or companies that Nintendo 100% owns. Retro Studios is allowed but not Intelligent Systems. So games like Pokemon and Fire Emblem are not on there because they are not internally developed.  I will have to discuss what this means for 2nd party later. Right now I am just focusing on 1st party titles.

(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Can't wait to read this once i'm done narrowly passing my two online classes

Don‘t know, but I hope it‘s getting a Wave Race.

Why did you forget the Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap? And where is Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS

You know that thing when you uhhh...and then you...hmmm. But then you have to...umm, Yuh.

You didn't include Spirit Tracks?

Is this an "official strategy" or just something you noticed? Cause I gotta say ... this is very shakey ground to walk on, lol.

I think Pokemon might as well be considered first party too. I mean, Nintendo owns 33% of The Pokemon Company, but they also own an undisclosed percentage of Creatures Inc., who own another 33% of Pokemon.

In my opinion those games should be on the list, but I think he's strictly only listing games made by internal Nintendo. Minish Cap is Capcom and Smash Bros is Bandai Namco if I recall correctly.

Even then, he's missing yoshis wooly world.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

So many missing titles. I cannot make an educated conclusion unless I put in more work.

You forgot Metroid Fusion for GBA.

Definitely, not only that, but Switch will most likely have another 3D Zelda, another 3D Mario and another Mario Kart.

By this logic and the hybrid nature of the device wouldn't there be four waves of 1st party titles planned for the Switch?
