Forums - Sales Discussion - Analysis of million sellers by sales volume and ratio

Being bored tonight, I randomly decided to compare game publishers in the top 150 or so software titles, to see what I would get when comparing various values.  Here's what I found.

Heh. It took me all of 1 hour. When I'm bored, I do strange things like this.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

look at Nintendo's ratio
Nintendo is keeping the average so high

''Hadouken!''

The ratios aren't really that terribly useful; they just tell you the relative success of that company to the average. For example, Rockstar's success rate is very impressive with their average sales being 2.32 times the overall average, but they have only 9 games released overall. Meaning that their overall impact on the million sellers list at large isn't great, but their individual success is quite high. As you can see, the perspective provided by having all data helps put these things in a large-scale context, as well as smaller contexts.

Around the Network

Nintendo is king
EA and Sony are juggernauts
Capcom and Square Enix top it off

''Hadouken!''

that why is siad that Nintendo is keeping the average up

cause their 1,5 ratio is based on more than 200 games, so it does have a great overall impact

''Hadouken!''

It's very true that Nintendo's not having any difficulty staying ahead of the curve. Ubisoft seems to be having the most trouble of these 22 in reaching the average, but seeing as the games in the top 150 are raising the bar so much, that's not surprising at all.

nintendo will break the 1 billion copies sold probably sometime in this summer

just remember that these are only the million sellers.  the games that sell over 500k dont get included.

very good analysis.  only one more thing, could u list how many games each company has actually published/developed?
