I highly doubt it. It would make no sense to think of quitting on the heels of their first two profitable quarters ever. Unless this quarter's financials were fubar I see no reason for them to quit.

I could see it would be plausable for them to switch their focus to gaming for Windows, and perhaps put out a gaming rig with the Xbox logo on it, of some sort that is also a PC.
Not that it will happen, but I'm just saying, a newer company like Microsoft gaming could go another direction next time around, if they feel this path isn't going to form a profit for them eventually as they planned.
No company has promised us a new next-gen console. We expect one from all three. I certainly do. However, if MS dropped out after this gen, it would be the least surprising of the three.
Which console would get the Halo franchise? I'm guessing Windows would get a lot more games first, if MS turned into a software developer, mainly.
Interesting concept, either way. I doubt it's happening, and I know for sure that at this early date, it can't be certain yet.
That said, I'm almost certain that I saw an article putting RRoD losses around 1 billion last fiscal year, and also that article I posted about Microsoft dying a few months back said that those numbers weren't added into their 500million profit, while Zune revenue was, so we could be looking at a company who easily loses a billion dollars a year trying to stay in the console business.
Afterall, MS is a business with a bottom line, if the Xbox is dragging it down, I guarntee you it's eventually gonna need to show a profit potential, to stick around.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
Thinking about it further... If Microsoft did concentrate on Windows PC Gaming, I wonder how that would change things...
Halo franchise on PC, Gears of War on PC, and other MS Exclusives... I don't see it having too much of an effect, but im sure some people would convert to PC Gaming
it is quite possible for Microsoft to spin off their games division and sell it to say... EA? Then they could stay in the Software market and still make games for PC and Xbox. MS would no longer have the liability of unsold stock or warranty issues. They would just collect money as if they were any other game developer.
If EA were to get into the game, why start from scratch when you already have an existing brandname?
They could keep Xbox Moniker and everything too. The EA Xbox. Doesn't sound too bad, does it?
