Forums - Gaming - Bluehole (PUBG) in talks with Sony, about a Playstation version

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-27/one-man-s-journey-from-welfare-to-world-s-hottest-video-game

"Chang says his company has had talks with all of the major console companies about bringing PUBG to a broader audience. Microsoft Corp. will launch the title exclusively on Xbox later this year. Bluehole is in talks with Sony about introducing a version for the PlayStation after that. "

"The sudden popularity is no guarantee of long-term success. The industry is littered with one-hit wonders. Plus, Bluehole and Greene have no experience managing games at PUBG’s scale and have already botched communication several times. On a Reddit discussion board, nearly 300,000 users share their best plays while bashing Bluehole developers for new bugs.

Copycats are a threat too. Bluehole this month accused development partner Epic Games Inc. of replicating PUBG with the title Fortnite. Ubisoft Entertainment SA Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot said in July his company may pursue similar survival-type games in the future. "

Basically threat of copycats has light a fire under their arses, and a Playstation version might be comeing sooner than planned?

meh, I'm much more interested in the copycats. See if someone can do it better, all they'd need is to add offline modes and bots.

Mee too. This idea has a lot or room for growth: setting up traps, sabotaging vehicles,  some form of interactivity with the audience (a la Bomberman), random wildlife as a threat and as a food source, faking death to lure other players...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

Bring it to PSVR with AIM and I'll bite.

Good to have them officially say it, so many sad little fanboys were walking around acting like it would never hit playstation across multiple forums.

So basically Epic releases a BR add-on for their game. price it free, throw it on the PS4 -and suddenly PUBG is interested in the ps4?

Makes sense, thanks Epic. There is no way that PUBG would just "give" their rivals free access to a 60 million (and higher) userbase with no competition.

That said - far more interested in epics. Way more colorful, along with building/destroying/traps makes it far more interesting to me. Throw in smaller maps, faster games, and better optimization with no price tag - and they have a hit on their hands.

How is it all the sudden? It's just cause they had a deal with Microsoft. It's not like the competition made them go to PS4, they always were going to go to that platform lol

Yes, BUT they weren't always going to announce it this early is my guess.  Feels like this is ROTR all over again. I had no doubt it would come to PS4 in 2018. Yet others did have doubt.

So they are announcing it before it even comes out to the XB1. It is the same as SE announcing ROTR for ps4 before it even launched on XB1.

That doubt of "will it, won't it" is worth a lot imo. So to have it wasted before the game(s) even come out has to hurt marketing some.

I agree with that yeah.

Naughty dog should make a battle royale mode for last of us 2. That would be sick

I thought this already settled and pubg was going to the PS4 already.

Hopefully instead of having wide open areas it would have dense urban areas though unlike all other Battle Royale games.

Smaller, dense areas and instead of going solo, going on 2 player teams. Clickers around. Damn I want to play this.
