I agree that this will flop because that price point is way too big for what they offer

Linux + vulkan? hmm... okay.

Wonder how powerfull it ll be?

You guys see this getting PS4/XB1 multi-plats ported to it?

*edit: this should be able to do some Linux ported Steam games right?

So it's a Steambox in Retro-design?

Why? I still don't understand why they are releasing it. I must be too stupid to unterstand the article. Other devices also deliver gaming and streaming services. Did I missed an essential and crucial part why this ataribox exists?

Without knowing the support it will get, you tecnically cant say either way, but without first party, the price point, dubious third party support, and the fact that probably only the hardcore audience really knows about this makes this basically a sure flop.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

After more than a decade from leaving the video game hardware business, and studying the video game market, this is the best they can come up with???

This is going to fail hard!

"People are used to the flexibility of a PC, but most connected TV devices have closed systems and content stores," Mac tells VentureBeat. "We wanted to create a killer TV product where people can game, stream and browse with as much freedom as possible, including accessing pre-owned games from other content providers."

This sounds like a dumbed down PC. It will fail but it's not like anyone else didn't know this. Atari should focus on making games that people want before they can even think about making hardware.

A crowdfunded console? Surely that will fail. What happens if it doesn't reach its target. DOA? Also, where are the controllers?

I like those guys. So they're basically trying to do what I always wanted. Maybe I'll buy one just to support them.
