Forums - Gaming - Which "Mature" titles are actually immature?

There's also the series that went from being mature and within bounds to immature, like Mortal Kombat, MK was always a bit excessive with the violence but in a fighting game that can be fine, it had good playing mechanics in 2D but when the series hit 3D and they could put more blood and such it just got worse, and even having puke, it used to have a respectable fighting system and be mildly tame when compared to lots of blood and gore games today but now its just in shambles and a shell of what it used to be.

The Ghost of RubangB nailed it.

Being mature is actually quite the opposite of enjoying blowing people up.

However, in the context of this thread, Eternal Darkness stands out at me. Though you could slice off arms and legs, the plot was very mature and incredibly thought provoking.

This thread just seems like a way for Nintendo fanboys to feel better while insulting series that aren't on their systems. Oh yes, I would have quoted you Ben but I hadn't come to this thread earlier.

Either way, insult Grand Theft Auto all you want but it has mature themes of government and drugs that most children would never understand. When my friend's little brother played Vice City, he was baffled that a gang would be buying and selling soda. Baffled I say!

Excessive blood or gore can be made for immature people, but unless we're talking about Psychonauts, Okami, or other niche titles, then most games are played by children whether Mario or Doom.

No one even mentioned platforms till you came here, and people have been very complimentary of a lot of franchises that have never been on Nintendo platforms like Bioshock and Mass Effect. You're baiting Montana, and you know better.

I've had a long day, youknow that.

Then go vent on the mod boards first lol. That's what I do.

D'oh! Naz, you're not supposed to let the proletarians know that the oppressors have a special place to congegrate and talk shit behind their backs.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

ssj already blew it that we have mod boards the other day.  Not like they can view them anyway even if they know about them heh.

I spend all day at work being mature and nice to people that piss me off, when I fire up my console I want to destress by shoving a chainsaw up someones ass, not by working out the finer points of intergalactic trade agreements.

OT If you want immature Mature games, then look no further than Lula.

I've gotta say most of the Mature rated titles out are very immature as they most of the time focus only on the blood, gore, sex, violence, with not a lot of quality and memorable moments, they get great reviews cause people love to act out things they would never get away with in real life, but in 10 years these games are just not worth going back and playing again.  Most of these games are just immature, and don't use the M rating tastefully, where M means they can put any crap on it and it'll sell as anything with an E on it is "kiddie" by so many and these people want only Mature or Teen games.

Most of these M rated games don't have a good story, gameplay, or even fun, sure you can get your evil pleasures through the game but really thats just the little kid inside you getting all excited about something so dumb and in reality you just wasted your 40, 50, 60 dollars (depending on your console) on a game made by lazy devs that were just hoping you'd buy the game based on the guilty pleasure you get out of it.

The proof that these are basically aimed at the little kids that believe anything PR tells them is cool and amazing, is how many of them buy these games, even more proof is how you get online and have a 10 year old screaming at you for shooting them, truthfully the adults that get into these types of games sound just like the 10 year olds, so by logic wouldn't a "Mature" game that is basically played by immature kids and adults actually be a kiddie game aimed at those immature individuals that wouldn't know quality if it slapped them up side their heads?

I've gotta say the few M rated games that make good use of its M rating are:

Resident Evil series
Silent Hill series
Metal Gear Solid series
Devil May Cry series

And a few more I just can't think of off the top of my head, but these game series are among the few qualityM rated games that you can pick up 10 years from now and remember how much you loved it and still get that quality experience.

So what do you guys think?  Which M rated games are really immature to you?  Which series makes good use of their M ratings?

I guess (mario or luigi) saving (princess peach) by (jumping on things, solving puzzles) because bowser is (doing something evil) is a great story to.........

some games are immature though, kane & lynch is a good example. Also no more heros (bleh!)

Well personally I'm not saying these games SHOULDN'T exsist but the thing is mediocore games like most immature games shouldn't be top sellers, and having multiple games all dedicated to the same thing you did in the last game, cause most of these types of games know NOTHING of innovation, and hopefully after the 4th or 5th game they'll finally get stale enough for people to not buy them *crosses fingers*

Last time I checked Mario wasn't rated M.....

OT: What makes me mad is when people insult anything that isn't a marine/space marine blowing up terrorists/space aliens. They play these M games trying to look like mature adults without realizing their actions make them look even more immature.

M for Mature on a game bears little relevance to the use of the word in other forms of media. I word class something like the news or a documentary as mature TV for example.
Only America uses the M rating anyway doesn't it? Europe has an A for Adult or 18/15 age denomination, which is slightly more relevant as the rating is defining an age limit, not an intelligence limit :)

I hate the idiots that think a game like GTA is more 'Adult' or more sophisticated than say Mario Galaxy because it has an M on the box, generally an M rated game could be as simplistic as any other game, its just the fact the M rated game has blood/violence/swearing etc.

I would agree that games such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill are deserving of their ratings, even if you took away the blood and bad language (neither have much of the latter anyway), the scenarios and atmosphere created by those games should only be experienced by a mature person.
