Forums - Gaming - Octopath Traveler is how you do a HD 2D game

I do find the presentation of this game rather fascinating to say the least. I really need to make time to try the demo to really get a feel of this game.

best HD 2D is Rayman Legends!

Why do people keep mentioning Silicon Studio ? (Those guys got stuck with Mistwalker making smartphone games.)

They haven't endorsed that they're the ones making this game yet so it sounds like it's internally developed by Square Enix ...

The game was noted as coming from the Bravely Default team when it was announced in January.

Is there a source for this ? (I checked their official news release and there's no mention of Octopath Traveler.)

Maybe some of the staff that was originally responsible for the Bravely Default series formed a new team at SE but that would mean that they are no longer developers for Silicon Studio ...

Dragons Crown is how you do it

This is what I came to say. Vanillaware is much better than Silicon Studio at doing this.

Yeah first thing I thought of when I read the title.

https://youtu.be/Gp-Y_FgDHjQ read the description in this video.  Seriously, this has been common knowledge reported on by numerous sites for over eight months.

Yeah, that doesn't tell us anything specific ... (considering the Bravely team also consisted of SE staffs too such as Tomoya Asano, Akihiko Yoshida, Shinji Takahashi and Souki Tsukishima)

For now I'll just stick to Silicon Studio's official news release seeing as how it's very frequently updated (I doubt they'd let such a massive oversight to happen given that they take credit in all the work they participate in including unreleased collaboration with Mistwalker on Terra Battle 2!) and the fact that the producer behind the Bravely series makes it clear that his team (which are actually the ones making the game so far going by the pictures) is a part of Square Enix ...

That is what I think the video description you pointed to me is referencing to, Square Enix Asano Team and not Silicon Studio ...

That's possible. My point was the indication is at least a core part of Bravely's team is behind Octopath.  And it makes sense, there's definite artistic and gameplay parallels.  Even the Octopath Traveler title logo is reminiscent.  But the game is more serious vs the self aware and somewhat silly nature of Bravely.

Oh, I also figured out one more thing ...

If you play the demo, you'll notice once the game boots up it'll show up three logos ...

Square Enix (No surprises there), Acquire (What ?!) and UE4 ...

I can only conclude that Square Enix Asano Team teamed up with Acquire and that they're using unreal engine 4 to develop the game so we can safely rule out Silicon Studio's involvement with this project ...
