I consider avatars to be somewhat important, although it depends. It can make it easier to recognize a user if they stick with a specific them, or just stick with a main one. There's also just that they're nice to look at. Those who don't use one feel flat and lack any sort of characteristic, at least to me.

Might I say Cloudman that you have some of the best avatars on this site? You draw them yourself I presume?

Thanks! Really appreciate it! Yup, the majority are done by me. I think the only one that isn't was my very 1st avi.

I personally like it when people stick with the same avy. I don't post much so I keep mine static, that way people can remember me from the political threads i.e. Oh that's that douche that thinks X

X could = Hillary is a power hungry bitch
and / or
X could = Trump is a silver spoon moron

It's my face. It's my war face!

Avatars reflect your interests, that's all.

And yes i find self avatars smug. :p No avatar i interpret as no interests. xD

Avatars are crucial! I could never picture Boutros without his Mad Hatter avvy. I'm sure I'd be confused the first time I would meet him, expecting him to look like a clown-version Johnny Depp.

It really depends on the reason for the Avatar. Sometimes I'll attach a personality to them. Other times it's just something that I'm really into at the time or a passion. Other times I add a different meaning to them. For example I was rocking a Zelda avatar prior to Breath of the Wilds release and put some additional stuff in to the picture to add some very deep and symbolic meaning. Most people probably didn't know what they were seeing but it was something completely inline with the game while also making a statement. Another time I rocked an avatar when I was somewhat trolling and teasing a game with speculation.

I absolutely agree with the OP on how important Avatars are. Attach personalities to them. Let them give you some flair and vice versa. Though I'll admit I don't change mine when I barely active as of times right now. Mine is kind of 2-3 months out dated now XD

People without avatars are plebs and should not be talked or listened to.

If you can't even muster up the balls to put Best Girl of the season as your avatar you are worth nothing in a forum.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
