Forums - Gaming - Secret of Mana PS4 Remake vs Original Graphics Comparison

I would have preferred high-res sprites instead but I'll take it still.

Well, they both looks terrible. So there's that.

You monster! Take that back!

It's no Dragon Quest. I was never fond of that jumbled art style so it's no surprise that a straight up remaster looks jumbled as well.

I like them both. Sprites are very nice in the original, but the game looks kind of flat. Looks like there may be a bit more variety in attack animations in the remake. Wonder how spells work in it (since apparently they cut the spells from the tutorial boss).

The visuals could be better, but Square could have really fucked them up by toning down the bright color scheme or by making the characters look realistic / overly SD. I'll take mildly improved visuals with the same gameplay style over fantastically improved visuals with a completely different play style.

I don't like Akira Toriyama's art style. So, because it's no Dragon Quest is a plus for me.

The animation in the cutscenes and voice acting is putting me off. Sure, the visuals look low and such, but during the  actual gameplay scenes, it looks fine. They are really trying to stay true to the original. Also I saw a scene where the first boss is using a magic attack.

You, Sir, need some Dende in your life.

I have to agree with most, the new art style sucks. Keeps reminding me of that Adventures of Mana remake, which is understandable but off putting.

Yeah the presentation of the remake is letting me down so far, though the original is my favorite game of all time so it has a heavy load to carry. The lack of animation and mouth movements for the god awful voice acting are unacceptably dated. I'm really hoping that somehow that this is only in this alpha footage and won't be how the whole game plays on release. It needs so much more polish than what 3 months can offer.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

I think they are ruining it by going 3d models and... not bringing this to the Switch.
The old art style looks nice, the new one looks like every other 1000 RPG games on the market.

Dafuq!?
Why is this game on PS4?
I thought they nailed it with the re-release bundle for Switch.
Maybe release that one in English
