I don't think the handhelds and console should be combined. It paints a different picture, Nintendo handhelds vs Sony handhelds is always a victory for Nintendo. The consoles it's probably Sony ahead.

You know why Nintendo fans always do consoles + handhelds. They have to make themselves feel better about sales. Home consoles and handhelds are two different things. You only started hearing about this when Wii U flopped.

Why do people combine handheld and consoles

You know.... because a handheld is a console. There is no such thing as a "handheld" a handheld console is a thing though.

That's why every place including even including this site. Compares home consoles to home consoles and handhelds to handhelds. You only see the combo here. I never remembered seeing that during the wii years here. Wonder why🤔. I understand this pretty much a Nintendo place so I won't waste anymore time on subject. Do what you have to do to make yourself feel better about Nintendo. Usually this ends up with one of you running to a mod😂😂😂

Well then I guess Nintendo will suffer a huge decline going forward unless 3DS gets a successor.

A 3DS successor won't do any good. The 3DS was moderately successful but its userbase has heavily decreased in comparison to the original DS. The trend is that successors to Nintendo systems are never as popular as their predecessors.

NES > SNES

GB > GBA

Wii > Wii U

DS > 3DS

That's why Nintendo has never done the trifecta. Unless a 3DS successor becomes an advertising hit, the sales will halve compared to the original 3DS. Mobile has killed off the userbase of the DS line, and it will perpetuate.

Well the thread topic is "Nintendo Vs Sony" not "Home Consoles Nintendo vs Sony". It's not some great big conspiracy people, stop whining. The guy is just comparing each company's hardware business - the full business, not only certain kinds of hardware, but the whole thing. That's not skewing toward Nintendo or doing something so unprecedented as you suggest, he's simply comparing their full hardware business in NA, rather than focusing on the one specific half of the business, and it just so happens you only want to see the half where Sony is ahead. So you are whining that he included everything instead of making a thread that only showed the parts where Sony wins. seriously?!?

Thank goodness, because you never stuck to the topic, you made one of your own.

If Nintendo fans' real intent was to make themselves feel better about sales, they would do handheld-only comparisons. You know, in the same way that Sony fans insist on home console-only comparisons.

well heck Nintendo doesn't compete very well in audio equipment like headphones and home theater so let's throw those in there too.  You can always narrow or widen the scope to stuff one company doesn't do.

I have no idea what that has to do with anything. Both home consoles and handheld consoles are video game consoles, and both Nintendo and Sony took both kinds very seriously.

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/sony-s-play-to-create-walkman-of-the-21st-century-1.1160984

The chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, Mr Ken Kutaragi, has focused on the PSP's ability to go beyond a mere games console.

"Along with the game applications, PSP will have a huge potential for delivering other forms of entertainment as well as live entertainment through the network, anywhere, anytime. This is the Walkman of the 21st century," he said.

The PSP wasn't some kind of side project, it was put on equal footing as the PS home consoles by Sony themselves. So just because Sony failed in the handheld market isn't a good reason to exclude a certain section of video game consoles when comparing Sony and Nintendo.

First of all I was talking about comparing years where they both had handhelds or only comparing home consoles in years when Sony didn't have a handheld.  Second of all if we take that logic to the next level we keep widening the scope to include things other than home consoles.  So start including the rest of Sony's hardware.
