Forums - Nintendo - Smash Bros. Wii U finals at EVO 2017 to air live on Disney XD

Whoa, that's pretty cool, I wonder how much Nintendo is involved in this and how much meaning it might have for the competitive future of Smash (given Nintendo seems to want to pursue eSports in some way, but only with other games). SFV has already made it to TV here (so I assume mostly everywhere), but it is nice seeing Smash make the jump too.

Nintendo should just bring back their world championships from the 80s/90s.  It was cool to see it happen a few years back when they showcased Super Mario Maker in the tournament.  I don't think they held anymore after that E3 which is a shame because I thought it went well.  This coming from someone that doesn't give a damn about esports and gets bored very quickly watching others play video games.

That´s great. Smash is a good spectator game.
Nintendo SHOULD give it more attention as a competitive game. They made a good job at E3 with Pokken, Splatoon 2 and ARMS. Could do something similar to that game (but I think they will wait until the nex SSB for Switch)

Cue the Melee salt in 3...2..1!

Really though, very cool that they're doing this for Smash 4.

Should have done it two Evos ago when they were still trying to sell Wii Us but oh well.

At 1st, I thought it was funny that it will be hosted on Disney, but they I realized... It's gonna be on TV?? Now that is pretty awesome. I'd tune in to that.

It makes sense you enjoyed the World Championships then, because that is really nothing like eSports at all, if anything they're just glorified advertisement. I mean, don't get me wrong, I did enjoy watching that as well as it was a lot of fun, but it's nothing like EVO or any other kind of serious competition.

Yea, count me out of those "serious" competitions. The only game show I went to a few years back had a LoL tournament going which at time I wasn't even sure what game it was. The whole scene was nearly embarrassing to me and it almost made me feel out of place. The crowd cheering to some shitty Starcraft mod just blew my mind. To each their own but that scene is not for me.

Also I don't think Nintendo has involvement in this tournament, I think its just the power of esports and FGC to get Smash Bros. on TV

Update on this. Smash 4 Top 8 will also air on ESPNU! Sure it's not ESPN2 like for SFV but it goes to show there more opportunities on the horizon for Smash!
