@ Vetteman94

Just wanted to say I appreciate you posting this information, I always enjoy reading it. I look forward to seeing how the upcoming big releases like Star Trek and Transformers 2  do (even though I hated transformers 2!) with the higher PS3 install base. It will be a very interesting holiday for Blu-Ray this year.

Well thanks you,  being a pretty big Blu-ray enthusiast I am extremely interested in the numbers myself as well.   Those 2 releases will be pretty critical in the success of Blu-ray.   With Transformers 2 releasing on Oct. 20th and Star Trek releasing Nov. 17th. Blu-ray could have a some great numbers spanning a months time leading up into the Holiday season.

I still stand by my prediction that Transformers 2 will get Blu-ray to the 20% mark,  with Star Trek doing it again a month later.

Think the blu ray percentage will really start to rise this xmas if the PS3 sales reallystart to fly

Here is the data for week ending 09/20/09

Blu-ray had a great week with the ratio coming in at 12:88.   Blu-ray revenue was up 273.4% YoY, DVD revenue was also up at 16.8% YoY, and total media revenue was up 27.6% YoY.   It was a good week for both Blu-ray and DVD.

Until Stand Alone BluRay players hit dirt at $100, the only reasonable BluRay player is the PS3 which is too complicated for normal, non-gaming users like your parents. You also need to have a decent HD TV and at least 5.1 speaker sound to get anything out of BluRay, which again is only a small percentage of america right now. Good BluRays are $25+ while DVDs are $10 . The recession didn't help the big surge in HD TV sales either so while BluRay will in the end take over DVD, it's getting hit with some ruff times right now.

Blu-ray players have already hit the $100 mark.   And to say the only reasonable blu-ray player is the PS3 is being naive.  Sony and Samsung both make $200 blu-ray players that are really good.

As for the price arguement on the movies again.  You cannot compare the standard versions of the DVD to Blu-ray since you get all of the special features in the blu-ray release.   And most of the time for new releases the price of blu-rays are around $25, while the DVDs are $20.

Go Bluray.

How much will be DVD down YoY? predictions? It looks like it will drop a lot in sales and profits (for the first time?).

blu ray slowly creeping back up :)
