Forums - Sales - Blu-rays sale percentage tracking

It's going to be a long, long time before Blu-Ray makes any kind of dent in DVD sales. Because of the upscaling DVD players and even upscaling game consoles, most movie lovers are going to just stick with DVD's and and what them in HD. There's really no need to switch to Blu-Ray unless you are using it as a storage media. I have a LOT of stuff on my PC that I would love to burn to a Blu-Ray disc. I can imagine how much a RW Blu-Ray disc will cost. Anyway, with Blu-Ray on the market now, you would think that DVD prices would drop some on new releases right? Nope, I still see new DVD's costing $19.99 or $22.99 for special edition 2 disc sets. Blu-Ray has yet to effect DVD prices.

The Blu-Ray vs. DVD trend will follow more or less exactly what the DVD vs. VHS trend did, but it will undoubtedly take longer, maybe twice as long. I do think DVD's will eventually be phased out though for movies.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I think most people are saying 2012 will be the year when Blu-Ray overtakes dvd sales.

I'm not sure it will ever happen...period.  It's a debate with merits on both sides of which I'd love to tackle but this is not the thread for that.

What Blu-Rays released last week? Must not have been anything pretty.

Yeah I think it will be interesting to see if they end up releasing HoloData players or anything similar in the next few years. I do think overall that people are less wowed by Blu-ray as opposed to when DVD first came out.

holodata is out... just costs about 20 million dollars for a player and 5 million for a single disc. I dont see it dropping in price anytime soon.

Time to drop the price of new release BDs to $25. I'll start buying them in mass when that happens.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
