Forums - Sales - Blu-rays sale percentage tracking

But they are. Why would Home Media Research lie? They point it out right on their graphic that it represents the top 20 for each format only.

*Top 20 unit volume

That is not the same as revenue, BD has 10% of top 20 unit volume, and 7% of total revenue.

It does not say revenue is for top 20 only. It says "consumers spent $XX on DVDs/BDs for the week".

The "*" is only placed after the unit pie chart, not the revenue figures.

It's really simple math, if revenue was for top 20 only then BD revenue market share would be higher than it's unit market share, but it's actually less. This can only mean that revenue covers more than the top 20.

BKK2, you're not including any discounts, 2 for 1's, sales, giveaways, etc... are you?

Why on Earth would they have revenue beyond the top 20 yet only break down their unit sales pie chart by the top 20? Why not use the same unit number used for revenue to make the share pie chart with?

So you're implying that after discounts and offers are taken into account BDs are on average 30% cheaper than DVDs?

Presumably they only use the top 20 for comparing unit sales as the top 20 will be available on both formats whilst outside of the top 20 many aren't available on BD. They don't give a pie chart comparing revenue for each format against each other, they just compare each format's revenue to it's own previous week's revenue.

Anyway, it doesn't seem that you will concede this whatever evidence I post, so lets just send an email to Home Media and get the answer from them. What shall we bet on it?

It's not that I don't want to accept what you're saying but all you're posting is an assumption in the face of Home Media Research's own asterisk note. I'm assuming just the same so don't think I'm just disagreeing with you for the sake of disagreeing.

An email is a good idea and I may follow up on that. I just find the context of their figures and pie chart highly conflicting and deceptive.

I saw that earlier. Do you know if they use the same method as their TV ratings to acquire their numbers or if they actually poll retailers?

If it's the same method as their TV ratings, then screw that. I've worked with Nielsen before and those diaries are jacked.

So what's blu ray's total userbase as of now?

Also, I saw no mention of "Disney" in the thread, ssj D:

click sources on some of the numbers, there are pages in the digital magazines that show sales for movie releases.
