Forums - Gaming - Nintendo dismisses idea of entering resurgent PC market

Resurgent PC gaming is misleading. The resurgence is mostly driven by F2P games in China or South Korea.

While F2P games and MMO's make up a large part of PC gaming revenue, and yes, much of that comes from China and South Korea, AAA games like Fallout 4, Just Cause, DOOM, GTA, The Witcher, Dark Souls, Overwatch have all performed very well on PC. There is a huge market for paid games and AAA titles on PC as well. Not just f2p and MMOs.

I'm not convinced that that market is "huge" as you say. We know, for example, that EA makes 3 times more on consoles than PC (and that includes browser games).

I think PC is getting those games because console architecture are becoming similar to the PC's now so porting is easy. I don't doubt for a second that if consoles were to disappear, all that would left for PC gamers to play would be MOBAs, MMOs, RTSs and other F2P stuff.

Seems weird that this was a question at all. This isn't like making app games for mobile at all. This would thin out Nintendo way too much to do, and that would be basically like them going 3rd party, haha.

Hell, Triple A development just gets more and more PC centric. Maybe because new consoles are so much like PCs.

That and we've been seeing more and more PC version gameplay for AAA games rather than "PS4 gameplay" with PC settings beiing shown alone until release. We've already had SWBF II and Destiny II PC versions being shown off so far.

It still amazes me how PuB made 4 million in 3 months time.

To be honest, the game deserves it. I think what throws a lot of Console players off PC is that so many of the exclusives are trendy but damn, the game is just so fun to play. Definitely amazing. PC in general has such a great FPS community

Consoles have their own that tend to trend here and there. It's just that PC happens to get onto the indie trends rather early and the coverage exlodes because no one is restricting what can/cannot be shown.

It quite fun to hop from one FPS to the other on PC. I can still play a few rounds of Bad Company 2 on multiple private servers, or hop onto Quake Champions (going to be a good one once it's finished). I'm actually surprised how inviting some can be within the fps community (unless you're on the Origin forums with the likes of BF1, not had many nice encounters since launch on my part).

PuB isn't my cup of tea, well BR games in general, but that hasn't stopped me from watching my fave tubers like Day 9, jackfrags and Level cap playing it.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

"We are aware that many consumers play PC games. However, we believe that the integrated hardware-software business is the best way for us to provide the surprises and new gameplay experiences that we want to achieve," said Kimishima.

That must be a translation error. That's not how you spell "milk more money than ever imaginable".

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Many people play PC games, but more importantly many play Nintendo games on PC via emulators.

Nintendo is literally leaving money on the table by not putting content on PC.

I bet Nintendo could sell more games on PC than MS and Sony combined.

Can't say I'm surprised.

Nintendo is a hardware + software company, and that's where they're focused at. Sure, they now make mobile games, but they aren't the same kind of games you can get on their machines, and the same strategy can't be done with the PC platform.

Honestly, asking them to launch their games on PC is almost like asking them to go third party, and that won't happen anytime soon.

Please excuse my bad English.

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

They care more about hardware sales then software sales. Expecting otherwise is just insane especially when they really have no reason to port any of their games to PC cause unlike Microsoft who has Windows 10 to take care. Nintendo really has no reason to since it hurt hardware sales.

They loose a huge opportunity to make money. Zelda on Steam could easily beat Skyrim in total sales and would not hurt the Switch at all. Nintendo needs to offer a system for home console users, because the switch is absolutely not attractive with it's mobile-only design and extremely weak hardware.
