Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 shutting off when playing God of War: Ascension

I am having this issue where my PS3 is shutting at random times when I'm a few minutes into playing the PS3. It shuts off with 3 beeps and the light flashed red. I tried another game and that works fine. Anyone know what the issue could be? After 8 years, I don't want to have to buy another PS3 now to finish my backlog.

I remember reading that the super-slim had issues with GT5....I can't say I've heard of anything involving GOW:A. This is my best guess as to what's happening:

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

Hmm, I tried searching it up and got some results like this:

However, I don't see it mention a workaround anywhere.

Maybe the game is just too badass for the console?

In all honesty though it sounds like the ps3 is overheating. If you've had it for 8 years (like my 9-year-old fat PS3) you might consider trying to clean the air vents. It's possible it could be YLOD though.

I agree with the above. My fat PS3 also had the same issue while playing uncharted 3. Apparently the cooling get dries up.

i eventually ended up investing in a super slim.

I tried cleaning the vents with no luck. I moved to Ratchet and Clank atm so I'll see if it's limited to GoW:A.

This used to happen to me when playing Elder Scrolls IV. After a while it just... stopped. I'd assumed that I finally got past part of the game that was hard for the PS3 to handle.
