Forums - Gaming - From a true gamer point of view, should I really buy a Switch?

Sounds like you're in a really tight spot, as you like games from both systems. If you want more games, perhaps you should go with the PS4. Though, you can't really go wrong with either console. You'll be getting good games either way.

Should I buy a Nintendo Switch in July or go safe with a Ps4? (Persona 5 is really talking dirty to me right now too)

I feel an example of the games genres and titles you play would be helping you out. You only mention P5 so I am going to assume that JRPGs are something you enjoy. In that case easily get a PS4.

But again in depends on your preference. If Nintendo IPs are what you value most from your gaming than Switch obviously. If you want lots of 3rd party content from the West, than PS4. JPN 3rd party content will most likely still favour PS4 over Switch for many years so there is that for PS4 too.

Do you have time to use Switch in its portable mode? If not than I think it loses some value. But again it depends on the games you play. Need a better idea of that before comitting fully to an answer but I would say just get a PS4. And if you are lucky, there will be a price cut before your GF goes to the states

RPG are among my favorite titles that part doesn't really bother me that much since I know there are some major JRPG coming to the Switch, Fire Emblem is coming ( I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the ones in the 3DS) and Pokemon too, the only thing I really hate is how MH is leaving the Switch for its new game :(

I value Nintendo's IP the most, Ps4 has some AMAZING games but none of them capture something that Nintendo does for me.

Hell yes! That's one of the biggest selling points for me, I usually go out of the house for long periods of time ( I get to play like 3 - 4 hrs daily at home tho)

The games I like the most are Traditional Fighters, RPG, Adventure Games and nothing else. I was hoping to jump into Splatoon 2 since everyone says It's a stupidly fun game. Thanks a bunch for taking the time and respond!

Isn't Venezuela in a three month long protest against a corrupted government? My friend from Venezuela often shows me love videos of what's going on. I recall huge riots occurring over them blacking out the media too.

I hope you aren't caught in anything violent as the protests go on.

As for the first party exclusives, seems like either PS4 or Switch will be your option. If you REALLY love Nintendo's first party games and can live without amazing third party support, then go for the Switch. I mean, it's getting the best 3rd party support in years, so it shouldn't be too bad.

I have an injury from a protest, been at home the last week recovering. My GF has been hurt too but nothing major I had bad luck and a lachrymatory bomb impacted my leg. I can walk fine now but the first day I couldn't sleep one bit because of the pain lol.Plan on going out soon again, you can't just keep quiet with this kind of things... I can leave the country any time but my mom can't and well, I won't leave her with a country full of shit If I get the oportunity to do something.

Decided I will try and get a Switch after all :) Thanks a bunch for commenting, this forum is populated as hell, haha.

Based on what you guys said I looked at the fact that I will be buying more game for the Switch, even if the Ps4 has a big library... Most of them doesn't appeal to me... Ni no Kuni 2 is coming to PC too AFAIK and this will be my chance to try a Xenoblade game.

Traditional Fighter should come sooner or later, I can be fine with Smash when it comes out (I'm just hoping for a Meele like Smash this time around.), while I wait I will be just playing in my computer and also my GF just told me something that may be true... Since the Ps4 is already 4 yrs old (HOLY FUCK!) The Switch will last me more once I buy it... Hoping that It gets to live until 2022-2023. Also she's bias since she likes Mario and the fact we can play together everywhere.

You guys really helped me to decide, the most importat thing was "Games that I like the most" as fas as PS4 goes I only really want a handful while I'm pretty hyped for a bunch of Nintendo games coming... Besides havingh that portability with the Nintendo Switch is really something.

CROSSING MY FINGERS I GET TO BUY ONE BEFORE AUGUST ENDS!

You damn better cross those fingers cause finding a Switch at a reasonable price is no easy task.

...but yeah, I think you're choosing right. From what you're saying, it kinda reminds me of my 2011 self - back then I was also getting tired of mainstream AAA titles and just started to miss Nintendo in my life (hadn't had one of their consoles since the SNES and GBC), so I got myself a 3DS and a Wii U eventually... and though I didn't regret buying either one, I gotta say, returning to Nintendo with the Switch is definitely going to be a lot better as it's on a whole other level as far as Nintendo hardware goes. 3DS and Wii U are just so lame in comparison.

I do hope Nintendo makes an effort to bring over some actual fighting games, though. Obviously Smash alone is good enough for me as that's the one I play competitively and that's the one I'll be playing with friends for thousands upon thousands of hours, but it would be cool to have games like Tekken, Street Fighter or Skullgirls. That kind of stuff would be great.

Yeah, I won't be paying 400$ for a 299$ console, you can bet I will wait until next year if I have to.

That's the word I was looking "Mainstream" every game now seems to be Mainstream, people seem to enjoy them a lot but for a 24 yr old guy I can't stand that dark tone, the trying too hard "Deep" story in some games rn, not naming any because I don't want to insult any fan right here. I had a Ps3 and I think I got bored of all the shooters, Assassin type games, horror things... Everything seems the same to me. Nintendo always do someting different even if it means failing or looking like idiots they always try to bring something different to the table. I skipped the Wii U because nothing caught my interest there and I didn't like Wii U Pad.

I like Melee, it's the only one I've been playing competitive since it got launch, I'm hoping Sakurai decides to give the industry another one like that... Smash 4 is a lot of fun but there's something that doesn't click on my as with Melee.

I'm hoping for DB FighterZ to come, really... that game looks amazing!

If you can only afford 5-6 games then you must keep in mind that the Switch just released and it will be a while before 5-6 games that are worth years of playtime will be released. The system is amazing and sure to get quality games. Mario Kart, Zelda BOTW, most likely Mario Odyssey, and eventually Smash Bros and possibly Metroid Prime 4 will be excellent picks but who knows what will be here or happen a year or two from now.  For me I would say yes, the Switch, due to flexibility and the quality and multiplayer of Nintendo games fitting with my appreciation of game design, but if I were you, I would watch a ton of trailers, impressions, and see what your mind moves to.

PS4 would be a solid choice for single player experiences but if you cannot go with the online subscription then that rules out Overwatch and other key must haves.  Local player on Switch may be a cheaper option. Plus if it is a poor area, having the screen would come in handy. Gotta watch if others might steal it though. Showing it off might come back to bite you.

I was leaning more towards the Switch that's why I asked "Should I really buy a Switch?" the only direct competition is a PS4 right now and I wanted some opinions to see If what I was thinking was right, I really love the side you guys take in this forum on things. I like to see the two sides of everything before making up my mind :) I was completely going to buy a Switch before e3, after seeing it has no Traditional Fighter coming soon I was dissapointed and wanted to see what you guys thought of the system.

But a Switch as soon as possible

I was thinking about digital titles.  I'm pretty sure people on here have talked about having a JPN user profile on their Switch so that they can make purchases from the JPN eshop for titles that don't get localized.  I'm just not sure how the taxes work on those purchases.

I doubt Venezuela would have any special taxes on digital purchases like that. At least other countries don't. You're not really importing anything so don't pay import taxes. You just pay the regular taxes that anybody from that country would pay (and that are included in the game price anyway).

Worth mentioning though that the PS4 is completely region free too so having profiles of other regions to get digital games is possible on that too.

I wasn't sure I know Brazilians get shafted on physical releases for sure and I thought they also got shafted on digital.  I didn't know if Venezuela was anything like Brazil or not...
