What was Take Two's reasoning?
It feels like we're only getting one side of the story here. Why would Take Two risk the backlash on a 9 year old game? A lead developer of Open IV says they decided to agree with their claims, admitting wrongdoing?
Pirating it is a piece of crap move by you regardless of what Rockstar decides to do in regards to mods.

They claim it's due to online mdoding, yet another user on below the article manages to point their stance out quite perfectly:
"So they honestly expect us to believe they had OpenIV taken down because an unspecified number of snowflakes were allegedly offended by the unspecified actions of an unspecified number of people. While then proceeding to slip in mention of GTA Online almost as a secondary less important issue, again, with nothing in the way of specifics having been provided.
It's hard to avoid the conclusion that,
- their obfuscation is intended to conceal the real reason, i.e. money
- the mention of "harassment" was an instance of virtue signalling, i.e. PR spin intended to make them look good while deflecting attention from the real issue"
It's not hard to believe that this isn't all about money and control. This is the same T2 that recently talked about GTA V being "under monetized", the same publisher that has R* sell actual in-game currency (expensive at that) to players. I would hardly consider T2 as the "good guys" in any part of this situation tbh.

Well if they want to treat me like a piece of crap what do you expect?. |
It's their game. Even though I don't agree with what they are doing, that doesn't mean you are entitled to a free copy of the game just because you're pissy about something Take-Two did regarding their own game. If you pirate the game then they should treat you like a piece of crap, because in that case, you are.

Sounds like paid mods are coming soon, so penniless Take Two can reap the 'proper' amount of money from this poor-selling game. Sure, instead of fighting their fanbase they could be working on the next game in the series, but they simply haven't made enough money from #5 yet.

That seems par for the course with what MS are doing with MC on Windows 10, Bethesda coming back with the whole paid mods deal. Seems pubs these days are either wanting to stifle the modding community, control or make money off of it, maybe even all 3.

Well the Bethesda thing is being kept about ten arms' lengths from modding. It's not even really modding since it is officially licensed work paid for and managed by Bethesda. It's more like outsourced DLC.
R* on the other hand likely wants to obliterate modding all together so they can stuff the game full of BS microtransactions for various bits and bobs mods would usually provide.

There was talks about them having "new content" from said mdoders being added to their side, so it wouldn't surprise me if they started stifling what mods were counted as "new" and what was old and already exists.
Yeah R* and T2 pretty much want you to buy nearly every aspect of the online game tiself. The CEO wasn't kidding at all when he said that they "under monitized" GTA V and that there was no "business sense in releasing free content". I just hope the community gives them enough backlast. At this point I'd hope for some against a late release for GTA VI/RDR2 on PC, but I imagine it'll become another MW2 scenario, where the fans claim boycott, but buy the game the next day.
