What's interesting to note is that these coins were designed by a Welshman (is that the term?), and, according to Wikipedia, the welsh coins all have that black background to them.

I like the idea, I'm not sure it works that well though, particularly for the 5p.

Also a seven sided shape is a heptagon (I think there is an alternate name of septagon as well)

triangle
rectangle (square being a specific type of rectangle)
pentagon
hexagon
heptagon (20p/50p)
octoagon
nonagon (what the old imperial three penny bit was)
decagon
erm.... can't remember

etc

circle (either infinate number of sides or 0 sides)
