Forums - Gaming - What would be the effect of Sonic Forces doing the best, or the worst, on the Switch

You are obsessed with AAA third parties. I could understand such an obsession for something that is relevant, but you really have a problem.

Me or someone else?

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Um wouldn't skyrim, monster hunter or dragon quest, or even rayman be much more important then sonic? Sonic is a franchise that died years ago

I'm more curious of its sales in general. If this does great, we'll probably have Brandon the Bear and Wilbur the Wolf as a standard moving forward.

...and Boom the Blue Jay.

You.

I'll admit I would prefer them on the Switch, though to be honest only a few really interest me. Most of my games are 1st party and of my third party titles only one in recent times is from a AAA company, Rayman Legends.

Yea because a game everyones heard of, most gamers have played, and has had itself out for a number of years and special edition out for some months now on various generations of consoles and devices is a good indicator of what customers will buy 3rd party wise?

Sonic Forces is a far, far better indicator of how 3rd party games will due becuase it is brand new.

For western 3rd parties Skyrim is better because it feels much more like your typical western 3rd party game due to the realistic art style and fantasy theme. Sonc is just... Sonic. That doesn't say much.

If it was a new western 3rd party "typical western" game, then sure. But not only is it old,it is really old, and has multiple versions made. People have had their fill of Skyrim.

Nintendo fan's have accepted Sonic for over 10 years now. Whatever the success of Forces is, it will not have an impact on how other 3rd parties unsuccessful with Nintendo community view the system.

I do believe Forces will sell best on Switch and over 5 mill together.

It means Mario & Sonic at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games

I would be surprised if the ps4 version doesn't sell the most given the install base.

Xbox? Maybe. It's not the usual audience for the type of game. Is there even an Xbox version? I'm not even sure.

I want whatever you're smoking if you think Sonic will have any influence on anything in the year 2017

Not much really.

These types of games have always done better on the Wii. Even on the Wii U, they punched above their weight when compared to the install base.

The problem is that there just aren't a lot of companies that make these kinds of games. Aside from indies, Sony is the only one that really does a lot of platformers, and obviously they won't care how well Sonic does on Switch.

The only way it would matter is if the game does REALLY well. If Sonic forces sells 10 million copies, with the bulk being on the Switch, that would encourage companies to make a bigger investment in more cartoony platformers, and the Switch would be a big beneficiary.
