You were right about this one. This could very well be the best game available on the PS2, and here's why:
A. Graphics and artstyle, given.
B. Story is amazing, amongst the best.
C. The Japanese voice acting and the fact that everything is voiced, and you can actually use the Japanese VA option, man, that's just another level of greatness right there. I haven't even heard the english VA, but honestly, they can kiss my ass.
D. Originality. Period.
This is my opinion:
I've been playing Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria and switched over to this just to try it, and I might never finish Silmeria, this game just blows it out of the water, and Silmeria is pretty good too, but this!
It's already tied with FFX and XII, both of which I absolutely loved, making it my number 3 PS2 game so far. Can it pass Disgaea 1 and MGS3? It's actually headed in that direction.
Better than:
Suikoden III
Tales of the Abyss
GrimGrimoire
Silmeria
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Dragon Quest VIII
DMC1(yeah, it's that good)
Viewtiful Joe
Killer 7
Tekken Tag
ICO/SotC
Ninja Gaiden
KOTOR
Mass Effect
That's what I think of this game. Right up there with Radiant Dawn and Twilight Princess.
Vanillaware also makes another game, GrimGrimoire, I highly suggest owning it, if for nothing else, to support Vanillaware, my new AAA developer nominee, and it's actually a pretty good game, itself. Lets hope their new game comes out, I don't care what system is has to be on, I'll buy a 360 again to play it.
Odin Sphere has its flaws, but I can't stress this enough, they are nitpicks. The sloppy inventory management sucks, but it never interferes enough to actually cause me to deduct a point from the games score, it's just a quirk, something to fix in Odin Sphere 2. The slowdown, honestly is easily worth it, because the visuals are so magnificant, that I can't say I would rather have 60fps throughout and even one background changed. I give this game a 9.5 out of 10, because if the sequel fixed those issues, it still wouldn't live up to this game, due to the epic story, endearing characters, and the best Voice Acting you've ever heard in a game, if you've only ever heard english Voice Acting. Play it in Japanese, it's worth the read, I promise ya.
This is a must play PS2 game, and a console definer. If the PS3 had this game as an exclusive, it would be worth 599 US dollars. Games like this reinvigor my interest in gaming. That is all, carry on.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
