Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Japan Goes Switch Crazy; Supply Starved Consumers Line Up For Lottery Chance To Buy A Switch.

The Power of Monster Hunter ! I hope Nintendo manages to increase their production even if recent news said they had to fight with Smartphone manufacturers to get key components for the Switch...

Not just smart phones, SSDs, RAM, and vRAM are all fighting for the same silicon.
Anyone who has built a PC in the past, hmm, 6 or so months would have already felt this.
Though we are getting 3D based NAND for our pains.

I feel bad for a consumer looking for a switch and psvr combo in Japan. Both severely under supplied.

Every store I've gone to get a Switch is sold out, and the only one who isn't is charging way more than the original price for used ones.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

This is bananas. Sadly, there isn't much Nintendo can do about the supply-demand problem:

Something interesting from the article that I overlooked originally

Of course, companies producing smartphones tend to make larger orders than Nintendo, so analysts say they often have better terms than the big N when it comes to acquiring these sought-after parts.

I wonder if part of Nintendo's reason for upping supply to 18 million was to secure better terms.

Did this ever happen with the DS or Wii?

In Japan Switch will Outsell Wii 2:1. Not a good comparison, we must compare with DS or 3ds because handheld are way more popular in Japan than Home Console, Switch is both which helps push more sales than a traditional Home Console like Wii.

I'm confident that's the case.  They're doing all they can to get the Switch out the door and if it means flexing against the biggest spenders, then so be it.

Switch satisfies the big screen itch for Japan, the small screen itch for the west, the small screen scream from Japan, and the big screen scream from the west. There has never been a console to hit like this before now: Release the gates; unleash the Kraken!

Do we really need a topic each time Nintendo creates artificial " shortages" to create a artificial hype?

Its not selling faster as the ps4 and sony could make enough system after launch, soo can Nintendo.

Not Nintendo's fault, flash memory parts are apparently hard to come by with Apple taking up a lot of those parts. Nintendo is most likely doing the best that they can to match consumer demand. If they're willing to fly units overseas and take a loss on them because of it, I'm sure they're trying to get units out asap.
