Tekken used to be a solid 90%+ game series with higher sales during the 1990s. Button mashing seems to work effectively to win in fighter games like Tekken. The gamer with the fastest reflexes and mashes the buttons faster wins most games. There is no skill in Tekken.

This couldn't be further from the truth, but sure, ok.

Sounds about right.

In what world sounds this right? Tekken 7 has most characters of all fighting games, 42 GB game, complex 3D gameplay and tons of content. It deservers a 9 nothing less. If Street Fighter V gets a 77 this deservers a 9 and above.

Seems these western reviewers are hating the fact that Japanese games are on the rise recentley, i smell bias.

I actually played this at the London Comicon this past weekend even got a video of watching part of the showcase at the event, solid fluid game but I can see an average of the 80s tbh although it will fair better with avid fans of the genre.

Was expecting more.
*sigh* reviewers...

It's about what I was expecting. Tekken is not the critical darling it used to be.

Like any fighting game this assumption is completely false. Someone mashing buttons will end up doing easily punishable moves that someone with experience will capitalize on and go in for an easy win.

Yes, western reviewers basically hate everything from Japan.

BTW, most gave it an 8, which means very good. Why would you give something a very good if you want to hurt it? Nobody would've been surprised if it got 70 or even 60 on Meta.

I just hate the way they've tried to bury games like Persona, Nioh, and NieR: Automata.  Shameful.

That aside, the current philosophy of many reviewers seems to be "do something new and different or you'll get a lower score."  That's always going to hurt franchises like Tekken somewhat with regards to meta-scores.  Yet another reason why people should read reviews instead of focusing on scores.

Fighting games didn't used to lower scores for story modes and not having 50 characters at launch, either.  Comparing scores from when fighting games were still evolving by leaps and bounds just isn't practical.

That's good news. It sounds like it's gonna be light on content, which is a shame. Fighting developers (aside from netherrealms) seem to be complacent rushing out their titles.

SFV got 77, 82 is lousy in comparison, yes everyone exepted high score from these particular western reviewers. Western reviewers have western mindset, no Japanese reviews allowed in Metacritic.
