Forums - Sales - Switch Software Is Dominating Amazon

RolStoppable said:

Late last year we had a bunch of American publishers say that Nintendo should never be counted out, to which my response was that when a third party says that, then they have counted out Nintendo.

Western third parties put more effort into Wii U than any other Nintendo platform of the past decade. Do you think they are run by idiots or are they just really unlucky?

Well, what else are Switch owners supposed to do?

It only does 4 games.

Fixed for you.

The only reason is 'cause switch has no gamez... so people have to buy the same games, hence they top the chartz

...If Switch has no games...

...

...What exactly is Amazon selling?

It's still sort of dumb imo how a lot of third parties didn't bother to have anything ready for Switch launch/first few months. I mean, don't get me wrong, it is completely understandable why a lot of them would have had a 'wait and see' approach to the Switch after seeing how badly the Wii U failed, but not even a single title from some of them, even just in case it did sell well like it currently is? Seemed really dumb imo, though it is possible there will be a lot of announcements at E3 and that's only 3 months after Switch launch so I dunno.

I said in another thread but it makes me more glad to see what current software from third parties on the Switch seems to be selling well because it feels more deserving considering they at least bothered to support the Switch at launch or close to launch where as a lot of others didn't.

Exactly, the ones who are supporting the system currently are reaping the benefits, and most of the games actually feel like there was some kind of effort to put them on the system. Sure the Wii U had almost 30 games at launch, but most of the publishers didn't even bother to release dlc, or patches to fix the game. And some of them had the gal to say that their games on Wii U were the "definitive" editions when they were missing content or glitchy.

The switch has no games has got to be a joke at this point. The console has 50 games in its arsenal and is getting a new game a month. It has arguably the best Zelda ever and the best Mario kart ever. It might also have a new franchise If it succeeds in ARMS and everyone knows the second part of anything is many times the best and it will have splatoon 2. Its gonna have dragon quest x and xi and already has heroes 1-2 it has Minecraft and it will have monster hunter. It could possibly have the best Mario 3d game by the end of the year and maybe even a pokemon game. Fire emblem heroes and a true fire emblem are coming and there's shin megami tensei. It will have xenobalde 2 and Europe will eat portable FIFA up while NBA for USA. The sports games are really popular like it or not. In terms of what it offers the first year is jam packed and we haven't even reached e3 yet with all its surprises

I'll give them that, they did put games out at launch, but you gotta think, it's a new system with almost 30 games competing to be bought (most of which were ports and could have/would have bought on another system). Then some deliberately screwed their own games from selling well (EA with mass effect).

When the WIi U first came out, I totally thought that that was gonna be the Nintendo system that changes their 3rd party woes based on what games were being released. Boy was I wrong.

Dong get me wrong though, I'm not saying Nintendo wasn't at fault at all for that systems shortcomings.

Hey! Kamiko was a great game! Blaster Master Zero gave me my Mega Man Fix too.

Disgaea 5 is pretty sweet as well, a very nostalgic title for me since Disgaea on DS gave me 644 hours of play.

Arms is coming up soon and then Splatoon 2! I wanna meet Octo Callie.

I'm also expecting a Smash 4 Deluxe with playable Inkling and probably an Arms rep. We already have Little Mac so hopefully it's Min Min or Ribbon Girl or Twintelle.

The basketball game is selling well in the e-shop as is Shovel Knight. I'm very close to picking Shovel Knight up.

Edit: just picked Shovel Knight up...

Argh! Now all my other hobbies are suffering!

Isn´t that what consoles are for? The quantity of useless apps on Ps4 i don´t use is baffling tbh.

Those aren't AAA/$60/retail games, so they don't count as "real" games.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

They didn't put more effort into Wii U than Wii. The Wii U got almost exclusively ports and almost all of them looked and/or ran worse than on PS3 and 360. The Wii received ports of various PS2 games (also commonly of questionable quality) as well as original titles (mostly shovelware though).

I do believe that they are run by idiots, because prejudice and lack of respect always get in their way. "Unlucky" is a word that describes a strong effort that wasn't justly rewarded, so it doesn't apply.

In addition to prejudice and lack of respect, there's a third factor that gets in the way and that one could be called politics. It's preferable if Sony or Microsoft are at the top. For one, these companies have thrown plenty of money at third parties, and two, it's much easier to compete against Sony and Microsoft than against Nintendo. There is a desire to keep Nintendo down and some third parties even want Nintendo to go away. Unlike Sega though, they can't gore Nintendo. (This is refering to EA's refusal of support for Sega's Dreamcast, because Sega didn't agree to stop making their own sports games and giving EA a monopoly for sports games. EA's promised unprecedented support for Wii U likely fell threw for a similar reason, i.e. Nintendo not giving in to an unreasonable demand.)

Well, I guess it varies a bit by company. EA certainly was actually on Wii, and I suppose Activision was pretty much even between the two. I think with Ass Creed and stuff Ubisoft put more effort into Wii U. Skyrim on Switch is immediately more support than Bethesda has ever offered a Nintendo system.

I mean Wii launched with Twilight Princess and it was a huge hit, then third parties made absolutely no effort to appeal to that audience on Wii. When Wii U launched it was like they took for granted that that audience would be there, but Nintendo did nothing to bring them in. Nintendo fans didn't even buy the Wii U. I waited almost 3 years! Now Nintendo is bringing their base on board right away with Switch and hardly anyone is taking advantage of it.

Not that I think Switch owners would gravitate toward Ass Creed in particular, but I can name a few games coming out soon that I do think have some appeal to the Nintendo base, or in handheld form. Skyrim following Zelda actually seems like a good choice from Bethesda. GTA would sell on anything but I think it would be a worthwhile port. FIFA is a good choice for EA if they make a real game, and the lack of Battlefront makes me shake my head. Star Wars games have traditionally sold well on Nintendo platforms. I think Overwatch would be a smart port. I think Far Cry is a better fit for Nintendo fans than Ass Creed or Watch Dogs.

The system is selling well enough at this point anyway. It's not suffering for lack of Madden or COD.
