Airaku said: I really liked what I played and I'm on the fence of getting the game. The game is definitely best played with a Pro Controller, and I think that's part of the problem. This game in terms of concept seems perfect for motion controls but as someone who played a lot of the Wii this game had the worst motion controls I've ever witness and this was truly disappointing. I was unable to even throw one curved punch in the tutorial. I unable to move much left or right. I could go backwards and forwards a little. Though I would have to redo the motion each time. The controls only let me take one step in each direction. Where with the Pro controller I can continuously move and punch. With motion controls I had to decide if I wanted to move or throw a punch, doing both was simply not possible. This completely limited the amount of mobility and combat function I had. Which is unfortunate because the rumble was much better with the joycons than it was on the Pro controller. I would love Nintendo do give us a control option to move with the control sticks while playing with motion controls so we can focus on our punches and strategies and not have to worry so much about moving. This isn't a dancing game. That being said I had a lot of fun, especially with Min Min. I really enjoyed the 1 on 1 matches as well as the 3-4 player Free for alls. I find the team matches to be a little wonky with the camera angles which hindered my enjoyment of it and I wasn't a huge fan of the volleyball mode. Other than that I'm quite liking this game and might be picking it up. Thank god I had a Pro Controller to try out otherwise Nintendo would have lost a sale. It doesn't matter how good your gameplay is if your game is unplayable. If I can't move my character then I can't play the game. |
Are you sure you're holding the Joy-Cons properly and that your left one isn't having the infamous de-syncing issue? Punch curving should always register, certainly not never, so that is definitely not a normal motion control deficiency especially for the Switch which has superior motion tech than the Wii. As for movement, iirc punching slows down your walk speed regardless of which control scheme you're using. It is a steeper learning curve mastering good movement on top of good aim, but the same is true of Splatoon. Just gotta practice!
I can't believe I'm actually trying to defend motion controls. :L
