Forums - Nintendo - ARMS is an amazing game, here's why!

Wynaut? If content is the issue then there's the free updates to help rectify that. If you're still unsure of the gameplay, Splatoon had testfires even after it launched, so it'll probably be the same case here.

I almost never buy games at full price, and Nintendo's games almost never drop in price, so it leads to a situation where I just keep trying to wait it out.

Tried the Global Test punch, good game so far even when I'm that familiar to motion control, could use the pro controller though but never mind

It comes from a Tekken, Street Fighter enthusiasm

I'd probably use the Pro Controller if I ever decided to play it.

So I made one mistake here, being that it's not just the trajectory of the punch you can change but infact it's destination aswell. This makes it possible to miss a target that's not even moving, as I've learned the hard way. Aiming in a fighting game? What is this sorcery haha.

I really liked what I played and I'm on the fence of getting the game. The game is definitely best played with a Pro Controller, and I think that's part of the problem. This game in terms of concept seems perfect for motion controls but as someone who played a lot of the Wii this game had the worst motion controls I've ever witness and this was truly disappointing. I was unable to even throw one curved punch in the tutorial. I unable to move much left or right. I could go backwards and forwards a little. Though I would have to redo the motion each time. The controls only let me take one step in each direction. Where with the Pro controller I can continuously move and punch. With motion controls I had to decide if I wanted to move or throw a punch, doing both was simply not possible. This completely limited the amount of mobility and combat function I had. Which is unfortunate because the rumble was much better with the joycons than it was on the Pro controller. I would love Nintendo do give us a control option to move with the control sticks while playing with motion controls so we can focus on our punches and strategies and not have to worry so much about moving. This isn't a dancing game.

That being said I had a lot of fun, especially with Min Min. I really enjoyed the 1 on 1 matches as well as the 3-4 player Free for alls. I find the team matches to be a little wonky with the camera angles which hindered my enjoyment of it and I wasn't a huge fan of the volleyball mode. Other than that I'm quite liking this game and might be picking it up. Thank god I had a Pro Controller to try out otherwise Nintendo would have lost a sale. It doesn't matter how good your gameplay is if your game is unplayable. If I can't move my character then I can't play the game.

Are you sure you're holding the Joy-Cons properly and that your left one isn't having the infamous de-syncing issue? Punch curving should always register, certainly not never, so that is definitely not a normal motion control deficiency especially for the Switch which has superior motion tech than the Wii. As for movement, iirc punching slows down your walk speed regardless of which control scheme you're using. It is a steeper learning curve mastering good movement on top of good aim, but the same is true of Splatoon. Just gotta practice!

I can't believe I'm actually trying to defend motion controls. :L

Mate you lost me at the motion controls are good. Theyre not, theyre unresponsive like most motion based games.

The game is great with standard controls but dont try and fool anyone into thinking this game has good motion controls. Its as bad as those that think gyro aiming in splatoon is good or tilting your wiimote in MK is good.

I was finally hoping motion based games are gone for good but Nintendo keeps bringing back this unwanted zombie and its doing my head in. Luckily its optional.

And that's how I know not to even bother!

Aww hell nah! Splatoon's gyro-aiming is life! It's two aiming sensitivities in one: stick for harder turning, gyro for finer-tuning.

I think it looks amazing, looking forward to trying it out when I get my hands on my switch later this year! Hopefully the testpunch will increase the interest for the game, and maybe show the doubters that the motion controls aren't all that bad (or that the game is still great with regular controls). If it takes of that might also make nintendo more willing to make switch sports resort, which would make me very happy.

If anything it makes me happy to see that nintendo are willing to let their bigger teams experiment.

OMG! I'm so happy to see I'm not alone on this. I'd love a more polished Switch Sports Resort game. The original was so fun!

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I'm sure I was holding them properly and there didn't seem to be any synchronization issues. Nothing popped up on screen at least and every punch registered, just went straight even if I twisted or even pulled a hook. Movement was only going about one step at a time, which is a huge issue. I could block just fine and that registered every time. Unfortunately the "Test Punch" really doesn't let you play offline to try to figure out the issue and we only had an hour to play. I think Nintendo should give fans a 3 day beta weekend just like every other company does. They would guarantee to sell more copies, now I'm on the fence on rather I'm going to buy this game or not. the motion controls were quite unplayable as I couldn't move very well. In the end I still had a lot of fun with the Pro controller and kind of feeling some withdrawal from the game right now xD
