Frontier Developments plc (AIM: FDEV; "Frontier" or the "Company"), a leading independent creator of video games, is pleased to announce that Elite Dangerous will make its debut on the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system on 27 June 2017.

Digital pre-orders are available from today in Europe and will be available later this month in the United States.

In addition to a worldwide digital launch there will be simultaneous availability in leading physical retail stores in major territories of the Elite Dangerous Legendary Edition boxed disc for both PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One.

David Walsh, Chief Operations Officer of Frontier Developments, said:

"We are delighted to be bringing our acclaimed multiplayer space epic to the PlayStation 4 - new players on the platform are joining at an exciting time in the Elite Dangerous galaxy after the recent first alien encounters in-game.

Console players are rapidly embracing direct digital online distribution, but currently physical discs still make up a significant proportion of total videogame console software sales. We have therefore partnered with physical retail specialist 'Sold Out' on a disc edition for both PlayStation4 and Xbox One, which will be available simultaneously with the PlayStation4 digital release."

Lol they are partnering with publisher sold out. Which means it will have sold out written beside it's name when it hits the UK top 40 chart. Such a funny name for a publisher.

I have to say there was a time I considered getting a steam account to play a couple of games, but all of them got released on ps4 and it's awesome
