Forums - General - What happened to Samurai Jack? (Spoilers)

After the first three episodes, the show took a turn that I cannot understand. Why did they feel the need to add a love story and so much fan service? It's irritating since they wasted time on that as Jack's demon, Ashi's mother, the samurai on the horse, and much more was solved with such a rush.

Episode 8 was a complete waste as well. An entire episode basically saying they had sex...why though?

I understand that it was originally on CN and isn't meant to  be dark, but now it's on Adult Swim. Jack has been stuck for fifty years and was basically losing himself. The writing has simply been awful after he killed the daughters of Aku.

Wait, did they reboot Samurai Jack?

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Imo I think the season has been great so far still. (The first 4 episodes were still the best imo though).

I agree that some stuff did feel really rushed though, they spent so much time going on about how Jack has been in his current state and seeing the demonic-ish angry versions of himself for 50 years, but then he just gets over it in like 2 minutes. It makes me wish that instead of the episodes being 22 minutes they could have at least been 30 but oh well. The first few episodes (I would say episodes 1-5 or perhaps 1-6) managed to not feel like they were being rushed as much but once it got to the episode with him getting his sword back and such then it really sort of felt like "Yeah we gotta wrap this up fast since this is the final season and there are only 22 minutes" rush.

I don't think episode 8 was a waste though, and I do think some people are overreacting about it lol. The only complaint I could think about for people not to like it is that a lot of things in the season felt really rushed already so a whole episode focused on a romance, when it didn't need to be its own episode at all really and could have just been a part of one, has taken away time from other things. Or they just didn't feel like there needed to be a romance at all, but Jack's been living through this shit for like 70 years now though, let him get some happiness lol.

Plus I think the main purpose of Ashi and that romance episode in general was that Genndy wanted to create a dillemma for Jack towards the end. His whole purpose was getting back to the past to defeat Aku and nothing more, but now that he actually has someone he really cares for in the future maybe he's having conflicting feelings now and doesn't want to go back. (Since surely defeating Aku in the past means that Ashi will never be born in the future?)

I just hope the series finale can be longer than 22 minutes though, because I have no idea how they're going to manage to pull off a conclusion to the whole story that feels satisfying without feeling so rushed in just 22 minutes. What about the Scotsman and his army? Aku now has Jack's Sword. There as to be a Jack vs Aku fight in there somewhere and if it's only like 2-4 minutes I could see people being angry. How will Ashi be saved? Will Jack go back to the past or stay in the future, etc.

I hope the finale can AT LEAST be 30 minutes instead of 22 if that's really all they can push it to at maximum, since that's at least another 8 minutes. I would love for it to be 40 minutes or even an hour though, just give it a satisfying conclusion that people have been waiting all this time for.

I see where you're coming from. Jack isn't a heartless monster, but there's no point in bringing in the Sam-roo-ai, an 8 minute part of Scaramouche's head, the Scotsman, and so much more if they struggl to wrap it up correctly. I don't see how the heck they're going to finish everything in 22 minutes.

Well to be fair that whole episode of Ashi visiting all the people Jack helped could also be argued as basically pointless like you feel episode 8 is (Aside from like the final 4 minutes in the graveyard) since it was basically just an episode to put the original series cameo's in such as the Sa-moo-Rhai lol.

The only way I can see there being a series finale that actually feels satisfying and answers everything is if they manage to go over the 22 minutes that every episode has been so far, because otherwise it just seems like there's too much stuff to have to fit into 22 minutes. I mean, sure they could fit it all, but I think it would just feel super rushed imo but it's possible they'll pull it off somehow I guess.

I really disliked the love episode. Really a huge waste.
But I still think the Season has been strong overall.
