^Blu-ray players will become much cheaper in time. i heard companies could release a cheap Blu-ray player half the price of the PS3. What if the average person only wants cheap games and a cheap console?

IMO Most of the PS2 buyers are not going to jump to the PS3, for the same reasons they bought the PS2...
Price (Yes is going down, but right now is $100 above the PS2 at launch)...
Library (The PS2 library is not made just by GT,MGS,FF and GoW), the PS3 has some exclusives, but the value of the library as a whole, doesn't appeal to the mass marked of the PS2...

If you do not like GT or FF you are pretty much wasting your money.

Thats the point, the PS2 has a lot of tittles, the PS3 so far is waiting for the exclusives, why a PS2 costumer must jump ship in the near future if the library is not there???
The PS2 appealed to casuals last generation, the Wii appeals to casuals this generation. Casuals aren't the type of people to rush out and buy an HD TV this soon in its lifespan and, therefore, PS3 sales won't take off this generation. These people will make a console successful.
For a person who never game before but looking to start, an impulse buy would be the cheap PS2 and its cheap huge library. If the person is worried about looking for something "hot", it would be the Wii. It also depends on their patience level if they are willing to wait around for one to become available. If not then, the 360 arcade model would be the next bet which is available and has a fairly large library. The games are not cheap though compare to PS2 and Wii and it may deter people from it. But at this point if they have gone this far for a game console they have asked someone for help or they may have done research on the gaming market. In the end, they are going to choose the best console that is a fit for them.

I never liked neither of those games, and I didnt waste my money. There are new exclusie ip's, and returns of old ones like ratchet, and metal gear.

ratchet and metal gear sound good.
I will get a PS2 first and play it and get a PS3 when they are a lot cheaper and there are like lots of AAA games to choose from. I live in Australia and we get charged too much for new consoles and games are expensive between $80 to $120. PS3 has only one model 40GB PS3 in Australia retails for $700 new. Nintendo Wii retails for $400. 360 retails for $700 for the Elite 120GB model.
PS2 brand new is $200 with a game included. Second hand would be cheaper say around $100. The games are priced between $20 to $50 for classics
Well I'm a PS2-Wii-DS gamer holding off on buying either a 360 or PS3. I have plenty to play between my three systems. There's at least 5 games from the PS2 backlog that I really want that I still need to get. There just isn't a real need for me to spend $300-$400 on a new system when I'm having so much fun with what I have. At this point you must be a real hardcore gamer to even think about buying a PS3 or 360. GTAIV might change that slightly, but I still say it's worth waiting until there's a more established lineup on these systems (particularly the PS3) and maybe until the price goes down more. Every has to make a choice, depending on their desposable income and gaming tastes.
