Obviously WoW isn't a perfect model for plague mechanics in human society, but there is a lot to be learned from such an episode. A highly communicable and fatal "disease" spread amongst a population of millions of subjects behaving in human ways, etc. etc.
So even if it wouldn't happen in quite that way, they could learn a lot about the way it WOULD happen if they look at it correctly.

I wouldn't. We are a flawed species, but wiping out the human race leaves absolutely no chance for redemption. You wouldn't just wipe out mankind. You'd wipe out hope.
