PS4 Pro vs Xbox Scorpio: Sony has 'huge advantage' says Kona dev
The PS4 Pro vs Xbox Scorpio debate is hotting up and one developer thinks Sony has a massive advantage despite the lack of power compared to Microsoft’s new hardware.
PS4 Pro has a ‘huge advantage’ over the impending Xbox Scorpio despite the fact it’s not as powerful as Microsoft’s upcoming 4K-powered console, reckons Kona developer, Parabole.
Speaking during an interview with GamingBolt, Jean-Francois Fiset, Parabole’s Community Manager, noted Sony has the upper hand when it comes to the fact its mid-cycle refresh has been on the market for a whole year before the Scorpio arrives. Microsoft’s console, as we already know, isn’t due to ship until holiday 2017.
“The way I see it is that even though the PS4 Pro is less powerful than the Scorpio, Sony still has a huge advantage,” he said. “They released their upgraded version of the PS4 approximately a year before the Scorpio. It means that they had a lot of time to earn more clients who in the end, just want to play a game on a console that answer their immediate needs.”
Sony launched the PS4 Pro in November 2016 on the back of two other hardware releases: PlayStation VR and PS4 Slim. The format holder recently confirmed that it has sold 53.4 million PS4s as of January 31, 2017 since the console’s launch in November 2013, with 60 million shipped by the end of March this year. While Microsoft has yet to divulge exact sales figures for the Xbox One in a few years, it is believed the console has moved around 18-19 million as of January 2016.
