I'm just super out of the loop with this series. For some reason i thought it was a PS3/360 game

I think its necessary for the survival of the genre. Fighting games sell no way near what they used to, that's probably because there's only so much you can do with the genre before people have seen it all.

"The King of Fighters XIV is coming to Steam" would have worked just as well.

 I merely pulled the title from the article itself. 

It would also be fine if many articles stayed in the format you suggested , ather than "PS4 exclusive/Sony exclusive", since we get those from time to time.
