Fun facts:

1. Splatoon has outsold every Zelda game ever with digital included (1.7m-1.8m units). Retail only, it outsold all but The Legend of Zelda (1.69m) and The Adventure of Link (1.61m).

2. Splatoon is, as of April 1st 2017, the best selling 8th gen home console game with 1.53 million units sold. Splatoon is also the best selling new home console IP since Wii Sports.

3. Splatoon was 10th best selling franchise in the 8th gen, behind the likes of Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, and Yokai Watch. (Only have VGC - 3DS data to check)

4. Breath of the Wild is on track to become the first Zelda to sell 1 million units since Ocarina of Time (1.45m).

All data used comes from VGC.

Will be interesting to see how BotW does. Its legs so far have been good, so it has potential to reach 1m for sure.

I dont think Zelda BotW can outsold Splatoon, Splatoon was famous because its legs, over 1 year it was in top 10 best selling games in Japan.

Is it, actually? Did VGC track Japanese OoT sales weekly?

Another question, do you happen to remember what made the increase WoW in the following three weeks for Splatoon?

Edit: VGC did. Doesn't seem like it'll pass OoT to me, though. Especially considering it's also lagging behind Phantom Hourglass and they released that outside the holiday season as well. (Although, the Switch does have a considerably smaller install base at this point)

Vgchartz is a pretty good archive for software sales. They have totals and regional breakdown from a lot of old games. http://www.vgchartz.com/game/2399/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time/

I can tell you when I get back home. It was probably a holiday, like Golden Week (which we'll see if Zelda had a decent boost from this Wednesday).

I think those are Famitsu estimates, around 200-250k for digital sales.

I think a more likely comparison would be Twilight Princess. In this case, they both were launch titles so they both sold to a smaller userbase in the beginning which stretched their legs as people picked it up further down the road. Cross-referencing BotW (NS) to TP (Wii) makes it seem as though BotW will certainly outsell TP (maybe in the 650-750k range compared to TP's 600k. More with NS + Wii U combined, obviously, but I still don't see that surpassing OoT either), but definitely not Splatoon, or anywhere next to it.
