Forums - Gaming - Michael Pachter doesn't think the Four will outsell the Two.

It is really hard to make this prediction because there are too many factors. This generation completely changed the game. We are not restricted to one form factor or one single spec. It is very possible that we see more versions of the PS4 that are smaller and cheaper, and larger and more expensive. Starting with PS4, XBO, and Switch the generation is no longer about the static hardware, it is about highly optimized scalable OS's, Software, and Hardware platforms powed by Cloud Ecosystems.

I do believe that one static piece of hardware will never sell on the scale that the PS2 and PS2 Slim did, however, I do believe that the PlayStation ecosystem will grow larger across all PlayStation hardware than it was in the PS2 generation.

The addressable market is much bigger than it was in 2000 - 2010. As long as Sony continues to expand the versatility of the platform, with expanded services and software, internal and 3rd party, the potential user base is many times greater than that of the PS2. The ball is in their court, now do they truly seek a One Sony? That is what will determine the success of Sony and PlayStation going forward.
