Forums - Gaming - ROCKBAND to be released "EXCLUSIVELY" on xbox 360 in Europe

- Haze is an exclusive games like Gear of War or Splinter Cell. I dont se ur point starcraft

- UT3 is not on Xbox360 because MS didnt want to allow "user created content" on their console

- Rock Band was never supposed to be exclusive to any console. So it is fair to think MS has pushed a little to secure a timed exclusivity.

Compared to MS, Sony buy a LOT less exclusivity. Just look at the 50$ M for the exclusive content. If Sony wanted to buy exclusivty, they could have secured GTA4 for their own console.

Haze was going to PC and 360 until Sony paid for exclusivity.  Do you honestly think Ubisoft took the console off the two best selling shooter platforms and left it on the smallest userbase without being paid by Sony?

UT3 was also due to hit the 360 last year, until Sony paid for timed-exclusivity.

Long story short, Sony moneyhat just as much as MS do.

==> Same for Bioshock ... again both company are playing this game.

==> Epic said it was du to problem of compatibility with MS. The Xbox360 version is ready but there was a problem with the user crated content.

Long story short, Sony moneyhat just as much as MS do.

==> GTA4 is not PS3 exclusive and MS paid 50$ to exclusive content . All is said.

But at one point Haze was coming to the 360, Sony paid $$ for it, and now it's not.

Isn't paying to make a game exclusive worse than paying to make it just a timed exclusive?

So if they have any consistency, should these angry douchebags no longer buy Sony products as well?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Exactly, both companies, there is no moral high ground here. That's the point certain people don't seem to understand.

But do you see 360 owners getting all angry about UT3 and Haze?

More like: "LOL, I can't believe Sony paid good money for UT3 and Haze."

Actually they're using their money to deny other gamers access to a game only for their own advantage.

OT I think this is pretty silly move. With high price of RB I believe it will see steady adoption but not be front loaded - which means a timed exclusive will not really help MS much. Rather in the way of many US companies who mess up their perception outside US with such tactics in Europe this could easily generate negative view of 360 with non-owners (owners won't care) rather than encourage them to buy 360 to get RB.

PS3 is too strong in most of Europe now for such tactics to have much chance I believe, and MS would do better to focus on better marketing/brand perception activities than this type of approach.

No doubt they will market the fact that Rock Band is exclusive to their platform.

Do you call it "using their money to deny other gamers access to a game only for their own advantage" with regard to Sony moneyhatting Ubisoft for Haze or Epic for UT3?

Or do you call that Sony doing the best they can for their customers?

Unless I'm misreading the situation (and someone tell me if I am) this is in no way a paid exclusive.  I should note I don't like the idea of paid exclusives anyway whether Sony or MS do it.  However I can accept its part of the industry.  So MS pay for Bioshock and Sony pay for Haze.

But those games wre not released anywhere when the deals were struck and once they became exclusive (or timed) then everyone knew that.  They were made exclusive (or timed exclusive like UT3) and launched that way.

From my point of view Rockband is a multiplatform release and MS has stepped in after the game is finished to dely launching for certain platforms in a specific region - assuming the rumour is true obviously.  That's not a timed exclusive - in my view it crosses the line from acceptable exclusives to unacceptable tampering with the market.  I know this seems like splitting hairs but to me there is a difference in paying for an exclusive and paying to alter launch schedules late in the day for certain regions.

Mind you, I won't be getting it (or at least I doubt I will) so I'm not personally affected - but the simple fact is MS is impacting European console owners for a game that has always been multi-platform so far as I know, and I don't think that's an acceptable move.

I'd feel just the same way if Sony had paid to delay the 360 launch of a multi-platform title in Europe as well.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Everyone plays this game, Reasonable. EA has always pidgeonholed various consoles for their titles, and this is no different. What about Nintendo and Resident Evil 4? Grand Theft Auto? Armored Core? Eternal Sonata? Rock Band on Wii?

Those are the ones that I can think off of my head that were meant for a specific console, but got railroaded somewhere else thanks to a companies desire of securing exclusive content. The fact is, in this day and age, if you want exclusive rights to a multi-platform game for any length of time, you must buy it. Nintendo did it with the great-selling Resident Evil franchise, Microsoft has done it with Rock Band, and Sony is trying to do it with LA Noir. It's part of the business. Atleast Rock Band comes out at all in Europe.

And for all we know, Microsoft could of merely stepped upto the plate, allowed EA to get Rock Band done earlier for the PAL release, while the PS and Wii versions languish due to other issues. EA has tons of incentive for the 360 version first, because of the DLC.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Since I do not know an European who owns Rockband ... this is not exactly terrible.

Rockbands are not SO hot over hear (Cool too but not to the extent as in the US)

Nobody hear pays 140E for some controllers and a game

I (and I think many fellow Europeans) never understood the rythm game thing.

Who has this kind of space?

If microsoft is the reason for this, then good move for them.
They need a little boost in OTHERS.

It is pricey though. At least 360 is cheaper in Europe now.
