Forums - Gaming - Are People Shoving New Games Down Our Throat?

Back towards the launch of PS3 and 360 (Wii not so much), I started getting a sense that fanboys were shoving games down our throats that dont need them to. Now today with games like Horizen, Witcher 3, and recently Persona 5 it seems like everyone is saying "This is a masterpiece!! You must play now!" Hyping up a game that doesnt need it and arguably is better without it.. I enjoy Persona because they were games that recieved great reviews and had a humble, also niche, community. I never really experience this with Nintendo games, but Xbox and PS fans really want people to know they enjoy the game. Sure Zelda had some of this, but it also leads to discussion about the actual game, not just "This game is GOAT" "Yes Masterpiece", but instead keep the community.

I dont know if this makes any sense.

Ever thought about the possibility that... those games were... actually really really really great and people are just saying what is a fact? Even if you disagree, you might be a minority (with the examples you cited).

It seems to be that the people are doing that to promote their preferred console of choice, to show that it's the best out there. For what reason? I'm not sure...

A fraction of it stems from people's desire to validate their purchasing decsion, by confronting others and telling them to buy and support what they do in roder to feel liek they had made a wise decision. The last thing a majority on this rock want is buyers remorse.

I do find it rather off putting though to see thread after thread for some titles on here, overhyping them to death, it actually puts me off wanting to buy into them at times, other times I end up grabbing the game at a much later date, when all the hype has died down and people see the game for what it is.

I'd find that weird if that was the case. Someone buys something to enjoy it, there's no need to validate anything. What matters is that the person enjoys it.

I do feel the same when someone oversells their game. It gets annoying when someone tells me 'certain game' is the best for various reasons, I should buy the console, and that console is the best. I like just hearing 'Yeah, this game is great! If you like 'certain kind of genre', try it if you can" Hype has ended up in me disliking a game before.

Yeah, I get tired of eharing the same corporate slogans being uttered over and over again, people trying to sell the console rather than just enjoying it and going about their business.

It's also a bit irksome to see some go "this isn't for you", as a means to deflect any kind of criticism used on said favorite game.

I just noticed that we also have two dupe threads going: "Worth The Wait? Why GT Sport Will Be The Best Driving Simulation Game Ever"

So there has never been a good driving sim before until now?.

Best and first good are two different things.

And then of course there is "ever".

Which means better than the others up until now, not the first to be good.

Concentrating on the first part.

I dont know if this makes any sense.

I dont see anything wrong with this. And it's not just video games, people do this for other things as well.

ie. TV shows. So many people talk about how amazing Breaking Bad is, or Games of Throne, or Rick and Morty etc...

This is normal everywhere for everything.

LMAO, this part is hilarious. What about the people who DDoS-ed Jim Sterling because of his review? It was in full effect with Zelda. Not to say others don't do it as well. The Last of Us comes to mind first. That was just insane back then.

what happened?

One guy sent me death threats because I commented on YouTube how and why I think the game isn't as good as people think.  But hey, this is the internet.

Ah. As someone who enjoys both Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei, nothing pisses me off more than seeing their crossover turning into a fucking idol Persona knock-off. Fortunately, the battle system redeems everything else about the package, but it makes me wonder why they went down that path in the first place.

Also, Tellius FE >>>>>> all other FEs

Yes, I am that sort of FE elitist.

I have FE Awakening in my backlog but I fell in the Echoes hype, so I'm gonna try this one as my first game in this franchise, wish me luck !

Oh, I'm excited for Echoes as well. Mostly because I want to see how modern IS remakes games post-Awakening and Fates.

Conquest on Lunatic/Classic is for masochists.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I don't mind it. I wouldn't have discovered games like xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii or ni no kuni on ps3 if people just kept it to themselves that those games are awesome lol.
