I can't tell if this is real or not, but I'm sure those games will continue to sell way better on ps4

I doubt Minecraft will but CoD and FIFA could. That doesn't matter though if people use CoD/FIFA for local on PS4/5 but give Nintendo the cash for online CoD/FIFA/MC/Mario Kart/Brawl/Splatoon/Pokemon/Animal Crossing.

If Nintendo can really push the online in Pokemon, AC and MH then they will get them $$$$. Splatoon 2 will be its first test.

People don't pay yearly subscriptions for bargain bin games, they pay to play against human opponents and with their friends.

Is that claim bases on any empiric data or is that just your gut feeling?

  • How many people pay PS+ or XBL for online only and aren't interested in the games?
  • How many people pay PS+ or XBL for the games only and aren't interested in multiplayer?
  • How many people pay PS+ or XBL for a mix of the both (plus discounts, cloud backups...)?

There have been handheld for a quite a while in Japan. The switch won't really change anything in this regard. People that want to buy home consoles will still buy ps4. And the ones that had only 3ds would likely upgrade to switch. That's all there is to it.

But the main thing is, the Switch is a home console too. It replaces both home and handheld consoles and that's where the PS4 is in trouble in Japan, especially in a market where the PS4 is only ahead of the Wii U by 1 million units. What might change is that people that want to buy home consoles will buy Nintendo Switch and people that want a handheld console will buy Nintendo Switch. Sony will still do well in Japan of course but's ovibously not their market of focus, while the Nintendo Switch concept is basically the perfect device for the Japan market.

I don't think so. Most ps4 games will not be available for switch. So there will be not direct overlap in the potential customers. If you're interested in graphical fidelity and like traditional AAA games you're more likely to choose a ps4. If you're a fan of Nintendo games...well obviously you'll be buying a switch. Now if you're a casual gamer that's not particularly interested in either the switch might be more appealing due to the portable factor but to be honest I am still very much convinced that the casuals have completely embraced the mobile game market. This might change but so far I've seen nothing that suggests that.
