I've always thought of fish as meat, just because it is okay on Fridays doesn't mean it's not. I mean, look it has the same characteristics of meat: It's part of an animal, animal was alive, animal bleeds, should be cooked (lol), needs to be cleaned, and fish need to be hunted. I think the difference is that fish are the stupidest animals we eat haha.. Like excluding dolphin, but who eats dolphin (I mean come on, I seen a dolphin laughing at someone doing Yoga the other day, that stuffs funny).

well, dolphins/whales aren't "fish" though as they breathe through a lung and not through gills

Nothing is dumber than deer.

Nothing.

I remember reading a Ben Franklin quote before. He was a pescatarian, which I believe is a vegetarian that eats fish. When questioned why he would avoid only eating certain animals, his logic was essentially that fish eat other fish, and were therefore undeserving of the same moral protection as poultry and mammals.

I probably butchered the story, but it was something along those lines :P

Anyways, scientifically I treat it as meat, but often I'll seperate them when the question comes up. Often I'll say "meat" as shorthand for red meat or white meat, while fish is fish. I'm Catholic, so that probably plays into why I use shorthands like that, but I can't say I've ever run into confusion over it either.

I'd put them #2 on the list. After shooting at a deer and missing they will run away from the spot even if the food is there. You catch a fish and throw it back, the stupid thing will bite again.

I've never understood this either. Fish are animals, animals are meat. I thought vegetarianism was more a concern over killing the animal than ranking it by the flakiness of its flesh?

Whenever someone tells me "you're vegetarian,so you eat just fish?" my quick answer is "wow, do fish grow on trees? no one told me about it.."

It's a special kind of meat. Special because man has been eating it forever, and because it's full of stuff you can't get anywhere else. I'm rabidly against veganism (and vegetarianism to an extent), but Pescatarianism is SUPER healthy.

obviously, the technical definition of 'meat' is the flesh of an animal. Animals meaning ALL creatures on Earth, not just mammals.

if you eat fish you're not a vegetarian. Not that there's anything wrong with that

Often in dietary terms, they distinguish between different animal sources. Meat for mammals, poultry for birds, and fish for fish. Don't know if there is a special term for lizards, insects, or amphibians.

Depends on why you are vegetarian.
